With the temperature at 30 and bright sun, fishing between 12 and 3 was always going to be hard work and it certainly was. Several taps and tugs from small trout in the faster water but only one brought to hand.

Another swelteringly hot June day, but this was the only free time I had, so I had to fish. Yet again this was another beautiful and picturesque Honddu beat. There is no doubt that it was hot (around 28 degrees I would imagine, but luckily there was occasionally a slight cooling breeze) but the majority of this stretch is shaded by trees, so it is fishable. Considering the weather we have been having there was a healthy flow, with a bit of colour, but of course it could do with a bit more depth.
It was the usual varied Honddu terrain, a mixture of small pools and runs, some fast water and some slow, good small stream variety. I’m not sure what the deal here is with camping, but in the second half of the beat (past the old bridge) there were people camping, and unfortunately rubbish (beer boxes, clothing, general rubbish and there was even a blow-up dinghy in the middle of the stream!). Up to the bridge is great, but if there are people camping I would be tempted to maybe stop there, or a few hundred further metres up.
Fished with Klinkhammer and nymph, most taken on the nymph but two on the Klinkhammer. Missed a few, but caught 3 WBT in the morning, then a couple before a late lunch. Had snooze in the hot afternoon, then fished from around 5-8pm. Caught another 9, mainly between 5.30 and 7.30, after that it went very quiet. All returned. Sizes from around 6-12”, and all looking very healthy.

Another scorching day - fish caught through the day in shaded swims, really came on later as the sun lost a bit of strength. Resulting in one of the best hours fishing I have had - 5 casts, 3 barbel, 1 eel! A lovely stretch with well looked after swims. All fish in excellent condition as always. Be careful parking though - you could lose a sump!

Almost exactly 1 year ago I fished this beat in torrential rain and the river rising rapidly, what a difference a year makes!! Blimey it was HOT.
Arrived at beat about 4:30 am after 5 hour drive and a couple of hours kip in a service station car park. Fished the gravel bar at the bottom of beat 4 and the pool following at the top of beat 5. Started fishing about 5.30 good chub first cast followed by 3 more Chub and a Barbel (5lb 8oz)by 10am. (Also lost 1 chub and a Barbel) All fish fell to pellet apart from the biggest chub (4lb 3oz) which fell to rolling meat. After the sun got up the water died. Walked the length of beat 5 trying various swims without success. Back to beat 3 in the afternoon which is faster water, plenty of Salmon showing but no joy. Back to the gravel bar for the evening but the extreme heat and low water conditions had put paid to anymore action.
Lovely beat in the right conditions but yesterday was just extreme.

A perfect day for barbecues, but an awful one for fishing! Tried PTNs, GRHEs and an assortment of other nymphs, then went off for some lunch. Came back in the evening and it remained quiet until about 2130 when the rises started and I got three lovely 8" WBT to an F fly.
Unfortunately the good weather also brought out about 15 youngsters trying to cool down in the river. I left them to it at lunch time, but they were still there when I returned in the evening and I couldn't therefore fish the lower part of the beat. Luckily there was lots of water on the upper parts of the beat to keep a trout fisherman busy.

Took a guest for evening fishing for trout. River just under 0.5m and temp 27 deg. Not much going on so fished sub surface until the rise with variety of nymphs with no takes,
Gabe, my guest fished some of his ancient patterns with no success either.
He tied on a huge mayfly and landed a three quarter pound fish from the head of the rock which was returned.
I had no success below rock using a variety of normally dependable dry patterns such as White and grey wulff. CDC and deer hair sedge to no avail.
Water temperature was tepid so guess fish were less than ready to take. Disappointing. Finished at 22.15
