Fished from 2.30 to 7.45pm. Almost no sign of any fish at all. Only saw two small rises. Water seemed a bit murky. I did see two kingfishers and a robin

My first time on The Rectory beat and following all the water last week my hopes were high. Gauge was at 1'2" with good clarity. Quite breezy at times. Alas it was not to be. Fished Island, Rock, Tail, Bridge, Mill, Rectory neck with not even a fish showing. Went back to Rock at 7.30pm to see if an evening session might change things. Unfortunately not although a big fish, twenty pounds ?, jumped about 10 yards from me as I worked down the tail. Salmon fishing huh? On to Penpont now to hopefully have more success.

Slightly overcast weather conditions with a variable breeze. Fished along the dam during the afternoon and early evening. Few fish showing, so fished with a variety of traditional wet and nymph patterns sub surface. Missed two takes to a Diawl Bach early on. Two WBT of approximately 12" each taken on GRHE and Damsel nymph patterns and released.

A stunning location, and another great section of the Honddu… but what a weird day. I managed to land 11 fish (all small WBT) but hooked, fluffed, missed, shook-off and got ‘spat out’ by at least 25 other fish in different places. It was extremely frustrating. It can’t have been the hooks, because they are what I usually use, maybe it was my technique… I’d like to think that the fish here have different shaped mouths to the norm!!! I think that a better fisherman than me would be up in the +20 zone for the day if even just a fraction of the chances were taken.
The day started with low cloud and a bit of drizzle, but that soon burnt off and it turned warmer with light cloud and sunny spells. I liked the fact that you parked mid way down the beat, easy to get back to the car for food and drink. It was difficult to find the start and finish of the beat. I don’t think I was in the correct place at the bottom, but I did eventually find the upper limit sign.
There is a great variety of fishing on this beat, with some open spaces to allow you to cast, and then a few tighter almost unfishable spots. The wind was a bit of an issue, so I fished nymphs off a Klinkhammer for most of the day. Interestingly there were quite a few takes on the Klinkhammer, so later in the day/early evening I switched to drys with some success.
Met the friendly farmer/land owner for one of the sections, and she was happy to know that there are fish in the stream. One word of warning though, there is a campsite that runs along much of the length of the beat, so I would stay away at weekends (is it open at weekends?) and any holiday period. I would say that it is a no-go during these times. Now is perfect.

I caught 15 trout , mainly around the 10oz size but with one at 1lb and one at 2lb. There were 2 grayling, one to 1lb. One lovely salmon parr. All returned all caught with a copper brass headed nymph. Saw 2 salmon each leaped twice. A good day.

Firstly many thanks to those who have worked on the stream, you can get a cast away on virtually every pool now, although I would recommend a short rod - I use a 6' one. Good flow, but little in the way of hatching flies or rises. Prospected with drab grey and olive paras. and landed 5 at 6" to 12", and missed others in the clear water. Wading on the bedrock sections is a bit tricky, but there are a great variety of pools, runs and waterfalls to explore for a long but satisfying day.

Fished 16.30 until 19.50 in conditions just about as good as one is ever likely to chance on. Great broken evening sunlight, excellent water flow and colour, with a brisk up stream breeze; plentiful fly of many descriptions and greedy fish. I tried to concentrate on the more substantial seeming rises at the top end of each pool; but, since reduced back casts under low hanging branches made the necessary distances tricky to achieve, smaller fish cruising in the middle reaches got to the fly first. I stopped tightening after a bit, in the hope that less disturbance might ensue and that, after a pause, I might successfully cover the larger fish. This plan did not work! Terrific fun, though nothing over 9 inches.
As ever, the online booking worked instantly - very many thanks for a wonderful service.

Had an enjoyable day fishing on this remote beat. A lovely stretch of water but it is spoilt by overgrown vegetation which makes fishing in some parts impossible. This beat is in desperate need of some TLC. A few days work would make this stretch into an outstanding beat.
