Evening ticket. Cool wind blowing but some fish rising to spinners.

10 Trout

Had a few tentative takes throughout the day on nymphs and dries but only managed to bring one 10" trout to the net taken on a tiny black gnat.

1 Trout

the weather was clear and sunny, and the river at a perfect height for this beat. Fish rose throughout the day, but mainly in the glides where they were easily spooked. A challenging day on a great beat.

1 Salmon

2 salmon rods (PB, DW) and 1 trout rod (JB) – water falling slightly, down from 1’3” previous day to 1’2” on Llanstephan gauge. Given number of fish taken on this part of river latterly optimism was high – PB has yet to catch a Wye salmon – or any salmon on fly come to that. DW spent a good part of the day encouraging a half decent double spey cast from a lifelong trout fisherman – he deserved a fish for his efforts, but unfortunately none were forthcoming to either salmon rod save a 7” brownie to save PB’s blank. So as for JB with the trout rod – hay was most definitely made, with 13 grayling to 14” and 6 trout to 17 inches. Someone should have told the grayling they were a day premature! All taken on parachute ginger quills – best days trouting so far this year, many thanks. Now about those salmon…we will be back!

7 Trout, 13 Grayling

Breezy day temperature dropped to 13C in the evening. Very little rising all day despite heavy hatches of fly.
Majority of fish on nymph during the day, Beacon Beige and PHD were good dries for evening.

9 Trout, 12 Grayling

Water low and clear.Fish responded to spiders and dries. Managed 6 fish to 1 3/4 lbs. Could have been a much more successful day apart from a really strong down stream wind.

6 Trout

A very good day was had all in all. DH had a bumper occasion with 18 fish to 2lb. I fished for salmon all day but only managed 4 trout to 1lb. The day to be here was Tuesday when the water was perfect. Sadly some of us have to work! The wind was our biggest problem today being gusty and coming from every direction.

Very little sign of life at The Rock.

Gromain & Ipper Llanstephan. 8lbs salmon on fc early morning. Bar of silver no more seen.

A first Salmon for 71 year old Paul Humpreys....a 10lb bar of silver for his birthday. Another fresh fish of about 10lb for Robin Hemming. Both taken on FCs.
