This beat can provide challenging wading but the water levels were perfect allowing access to most areas. Weather conditions were also perfect but unfortunately the fish weren't cooperating. Total and utter blank, no activity seen.

James and I fished as one rod on this restructured beat - thanks to the office for helping with clarification before we set out.
On the river the day started off at 10 degrees but warmed up once the sun arrived about 2 pm. There was a trickle of mayflies all day, with olives and sedges too = but the fish only locked on in very localised rises. We had 4 between us - but what fish! 1 x 12", 2 x 14" and the best a 16" trophy. All fat, strong and beautifully marked. Felt like par for the course - all on parachute mayflies, a challenging yet excellent day.
Had a very pleasant chat with the farmer - but the stench from the mangled dead badger at the parking place was bad!

Warmer today, good quantities of insects seen, including mayflies. Caught two 7 inchers, one 8 inches and an 11 inch trout. Two on a dry sedge and two including the 11 incher on a mayfly. Unfortunately had to leave at 2 p.m. for the long drive back to Kent. Would have liked to stay longer on this interesting stream.

A difficult day today, we walked the beat last night and the place was alive with hatching insects and rising trout taking what they could before the swallows took their share. This morning was a different scene with very few insects, the swallows had lost interest and the trout had vanished back into the watery depths. My fishing buddy had one on a gold headed nymph early on and then struggled to get a take although he did rise a few fish to dries later in the afternoon.
First thing in the morning I found a good trout sipping at the surface leaving barely a dimple but showing its dorsal and flicking it's tail as it did so but it was over on the far bank with three different speeds of flow between it and me which pulled my dry fly out of shape every time I got near it. I gave it up as uncatchable and moved on. Several hours later I found myself confronted with the same fish in the same place feeding the same way, by now it was a stunning sunny afternoon and standing in the clear water mid river was a glorious place to be, I tried for the fish again, covering it several times, but then I got my fly to land and drift in the right place just long enough to get a take and I was soon netting a fabulous trout of 20 inches. This was the biggest of the day but I had others of 14 and 15 inches. A difficult but rewarding day on a beautiful stretch of river, will definitely be back for more. Thank you WUF.

Wonderful day in perfect conditions. Fish taking klinks and nymphs. A few mayfly about. All fish caught in the streamy sections.

2 10" trout caught on black goldhead nymphs and a 4lb. chub below the bridge which led me a merry dance!
Conditions seemed perfect.
Several fish rising above the bridge but I couldn't tempt them, I'm a very inept dry fly angler. 4 Mayfly seen.

Fished the north bank. Plenty of brown trout in the stream mouth and bay. Took five Rainbows along the rocky margins. Walked and fished west of the tower but saw no fish rising. Great place for peace and quiet.
