28lb cock fish caught on black and silver Flying C from right bank of Loxsters Pool Beat 5

Huge beat , lots of mixed water to go at , it's a shame you can't get access to 4, 5 & 6 left bank other than on foot , we had a injured soldier and he couldn't manage the trek hence we went round to Loxsters right bank which has been eroded significantly by the river , the wind direction and depth of water here made the fly difficult to fish so I got the spinning rod out 3 casts later bang, superb conditioned fish safely returned
A pool map would make a good addition to the notes received when booking
I may well be back !!

River 12" on the Brecon Guage and 0.89 m at Llanfoist. Water dropping and a nice colour, and a mild, generally sunny day. Unfortunately it was pretty windy downstream which, for sure, helped neither the emergence of bugs nor rising fish. In spite of the breeze, quite a few LDOs came off between about 11.30 and 1 p.m. and then just one pulse of trickling March Browns from about 12.15 until 12.45. Nothing moved to the LDOs but, out of the wind, several fish were spotted taking the odd MB dun and, almost certainly, more taking rising MB nymphs / emergers. This I confirmed by taking five 12-14" trout on one of my MB emergers and one on a MB Ducks Dun variant, with a couple of others jagged or long-distance released. Best fish 14”, but it was a surprising fatty for this time of year, at 1.5lb. Also a couple of others, French nymphing, on a flashback PTN. Not too bad a way to spend four hours "cherry-picking" to start the 2017 season!

Booked late so we couldn't get on our preffered beat for the last day on the river for 2017.
River had fined off nicely and temperatures rising so expected to catch. As is the case with a first visit took a good walk to
check out the stretch and options, and found a number of likely areas.
Struggled until lunchtime picking up one 4lb chub, but moved around during the afternoon and managed seven barbel up to 7lb 12oz on meat.
Lost a lot of tackle in a number of swims so will be interested to see the river in the summer to get to know it better.

All in all a great end to our river season.

As per previous reports 4x4 needed to get to the river, it had drained off prior to our visit but still very muddy.

Thanks WUF for your advice

3 x trout around 10 inches, spiders. This session did not go so well. The day started with a frost and when I came to the section of river I had set my heart on, there was a very cold wind blowing straight down it. Bright sun initially and then a cloud as a front came over. A few large dark olives and even fewer march browns came blowing past on the wind, but in this pool, nothing hatching and nothing rising. A few small fish came up to spiders - Dark Moorgame and Waterhen Bloa. I eventually saw sense and went upstream to find some more sheltered water round the corner, but I guess it was all too late by then. One more fish lost. Finally I waved at - I think - DC of Herefordshire on the opposite, Gwent AA, bank, but we were unable to hear each other in the gale. I gather from the report he did much better.
