Arrived at Courtfield on a bright sunnay day with the river falling. Had an early fish at 8:30am of approx. 6-7lb with nothing then until 5pm when I had consecutive fish of approx. 2lb and a 8.75lb fish that appeared full of spawn. Great day will be back next season.

Despite the river being high, .9 on the gauge, there was a good hatch of both LDO's and March Browns. I got 8 fish on various spider patters at lunchtime, with the best fish at 1lb 8oz. All were returned and were in excellent condition.

With the river starting to clear, bright conditions today made for a slow session. I fished most of the day in a high water swim in the top field that had previously proved productive, and had to work hard to catch 3 barbel up to 5lb by midday. I sat it out until the evening in this swim, but failed to get another bite. A move further downstream for the last half hour resulted in one hook pull, followed by a barbel of 7lb 11oz before i had to pack up.

What a brilliant day to end the season ! Had 2 beautiful barbel and one chub . The barbel was really special . I want to say it was 12 lb but it wasn't just a whisker under 11 lb 13 oz, my biggest barbel from the Wye ! I did get a 11lb 2 oz from Belmont in 2014! The other barbel was another good fish 8 lb 10 oz . Backed up with a chub 4lb 10 oz al on halibut flavour meat ! My son and I had a great day thank you all at the Wye and Usk foundation.

Fished until 1pm a trout and grayling on the French leader and the other grayling taken on the dry fly olives pattern all fish 1-1/2lbs, only the odd few flys hatching no real hatch today. We spent the rest of the day on bank maintenance

1 nice WBT about 14" caught upstream nymphing, taken on a soft hackled pheasant. There were a few fish sporadically rising to a reasonable March Brown hatch but none were seduced by my dry flies however this may have been due to my rusty presentations in a stiff breeze after a long winter.
