Good to be back on the river after a long wet spell. Cold day that produced 3 lovely hard fighting grayling all around the 18" mark. Had to work hard and covered a lot of water to locate them. A few dark olives around lunch time trickled off, but nothing interested in them on the surface. All fish caught on heavy nymphs fished around a depth of 4 foot.

Arrived to discover I had packed the wrong rod; a 7ft three weight instead of the 10ft four weight so not in the best frame of mind thereafter. That's my excuse for a blank day. River level was 1' 10" at Llanstephan so was able to wade extensively in search of fish but as if to confirm it wasn't my day caught my right foot on a rock and all but removed the felt sole from my boot. Decided to to pack up early.

Great to be back on the River again! The seemingly everlasting winter floods having finally given way to more normal conditions. The floods have left the River running clear as gin, and there is just the faintest hint of spring in the air. 3 of us fished today in cold, but thankfully dry conditions. The grayling were still very much in evidence, and quite a few were taken in short bursts of activity throughout the day. Beaded nymphs of around 2.5 - 3mm suspended below a suitably large dry indicator proving to be most successful. An estimated 30+ grayling to 2lbs plus 4 out of season browns were returned. Looking forward now to the first real fly hatches of the year!

Fishing was very slow. River approx 3 foot higher than summer time. I tried maggots, hemp, boilies but I didn't get any bites. I changed to krill dumbells and I managed to catch two chub 4-5lb and one barbel 73cm. I didn't weight my barbel.
