Spent the first hour sitting in the car with a book and coffee - it knows how to rain in mid-Wales! Finally rain eased off so started fishing about 11am in Penlanole Pool. Nothing for 2 hours, tried nymph, klink and dink and small dry flies. Spotted some gentle sips under the far bank. Missed first half dozen takes but then had 6 grayling in an hour - smallest 10" best a good 14".
Then a nasty northerly wind picked up making presentation and casting difficult (for me anyway). Gradually worked upstream and about 6pm had a 12" grayling and a small brown trout in Llandiro Pool.
Saw a mink jump/fall out of a bankside tree, a good 10 foot drop to the water, and swim to the far bank.
Thanks WUF for making these Wye beats available.

11 fish caught to Adams para or olive klinkhammer. Six fish were handsome 10"-12" and the rest were smaller. This is one of my favourite beats and I have fished it maybe 5 or 6 times. Today on walking back to the car I became a bit confused with the field boundaries on the beat map and (unless I am going completely mad) realised that the impressive falls that I have always finished fishing at are not in fact the top of the beat! Will have to wait till next year now to find out what the last 1/4 mile has to offer.

Two small brownies caught on a greenwells and released. A beautiful stretch of river. Heavy rain in the morning and a warm sunny afternoon. Very little surface activity. Saw two salmon but hardly a trout. Access is okay when working upstream - if you can find the steps.

2 browns about half pound both on olive dun. Excellent river conditions. Beautiful beat albeit tricky wading on upper pools compared to gravel of lower pools.

We arrived at Caradoc and were surprised how easy it was to access the venue and the beauty of the surroundings. Due to the poor weather conditions we decided to concentrate our efforts around the fishing hut which was probably just as well because 2 other anglers were fishing at the other end of the beat. We caught numerous Dace, Bleak and a welcome Roach but only managed 2 good chub and a very lively Trout.
The evidence of swims on the opposite bank is certainly going to put more pressure on this lovely fishery and it will be interesting to see how this situation develops.

Another early start and we headed down to the beach below the bridge in an attempt to fish undisturbed via the opposite bank. I caught a nice chub early on with pellet and feeder, then nothing. We then decided to trot with a float and caught vast amounts of Dace, Chub, a couple of really nice Roach and a small trout.
A beautiful day on a lovely stretch but this beat is fast becoming too expensive to share with the opposite bank.

Overcast and a good flow of water, but a brisk wind became quite a challenge. Fish were taken on small nymph patterns, and all safely returned.
