River was rock bottom, low and clear Conditions were bright and sunny with slight cloud later. Very few fish were rising and although I missed a couple on drys it was very hard going. 1 small fish came to a small Goldhead nymph on Klink and Dink and I lost another fish on nymph late in the day. In hindsight I should have fished long range nymphing tactics but you live and learn.
It's a beautiful stretch of water and will return.

CP and BS from London fished the beat from 3.00 – 6.00. Bright and sunny weather throughout; 18 degrees. The river level was good and clear. One large trout seen at the lower weir pool; little other sign of fish, no rises. The river was very overgrown along the entire beat, making access difficult/near impossible in places. High banks and deep pools, no fish caught.

This was our last day of the week and what a way to end!! We arrived at lunchtime and walked the full stretch, eventually settling in the wooded area.
We fished a mixture of pellet and bomb and also groundbait feeder and had barbel up to 8lb + which all fought extremely well in the fast flow.
We lost a couple off to rocks and also missed out on our 100th barbel of the week to a snapped swivel!! 99 barbel in a week is an unbelievable figure though and just goes to show the quality of the Wye and Usk fishing. Back in Yorkshire that number would take about 5 good seasons to catch!!
This is a lovely beat, however the walk is not for the faint hearted due to the hills. The wooded area would be slippery in wet weather but we did not find it as bad as others have made it out to be.
One thing to note is the problem with the ducks here - they chased our loose feed down to the bottom of the river and at one point whilst rolling meat went down for the bait and came up with a baited hook in their mouth. A very close call!!
We will certainly try this beat in the future as we found it produced mid afternoon as well as the last hour before dusk.

We had a good day although the hatches were small and sporadic. Small patches of great sport when we should've have converted a lot more takes into fish caught. Just the first signs of autumn colour showing and when it got breezy leaves started to fall.

Post cold front bright day, dry and cool. Prolonged light hatch of light coloured size 16 mayfly though not many being taken from the surface: a dozen rises during the whole day. One 8" brownie taken on dark nymph at end of swing. Lovely day on the water and a very nice conversation with the owner of this stretch. I'll be coming back!

After heavy overnight rain, the "walk in" proved interesting. The river was still dropping throughout the day. Occasional insect activity had the fish feeding sporadically. A challenging but beautiful river.
