I invited John Phillips to fish as I was unable to go, and he hooked 10 trout of which 6 were landed, 4 over 1 lb and 2 around half pound on a team of 3 spiders. Most came to the point fly and none landed were on the top dropper. John is about 100 fish for the season so far!!! mainly Grayling on the Rhymney. The Taffman is a genius!! Most fish were taken in the wood stream with 2 decent fish below the Rock.
Water 0.7m and perfect conditions at 12 deg and light breeze. Seems I missed out!!! AGAIN.

A warmer day with some sunshine which prompted a flurry of rising fish to LDOs and a few March browns. Failed to connect so a blank.

Cold day in and out of water. Light easterly wind, more so in morning, and dark clouds. Temp around 6C throughout. When wind dropped and conditions slightly brightened one or two fish came up for the odd dark olive. One nice conditioned trout on dry fly around 1.75 lb. Nothing on bugs. Short windows bewteen 11ish and 3.30 p.m. Good alternative beat to upper Usk which can cut down driving time if you are coming a long way via Abervagenny. Can't recommend my guide Chris Price highly enough. It was a real pleasure to fish with him. SEP

An almost perfect spring day's fishing the lovely Caradoc beat. Hereford guage on 0.5m which seemed pretty ideal conditions for fly but I also fished a Devon minnow and flying c. Nothing caught or seen, with one other angler fishing the beat and more opposite also seeing nothing. The croys at top end fished well and I particularly enjoyed fishing the midstream rock above the links run and the links run into the bottom end pool, a midstream wade into the pool until it gets too deep. Saw a mink at bottom end of fishery. Thank you.

Cold and windy day with no hatches or flys seen. River very clear. One very healthy 1lb brown trout landed on a small copper beaded hare's ear nymph fished deep just upstream of the road bridge. One other fish hooked but not landed on a PTN.
Two Cormorants and one Goosander spotted on the stretch throughout the day.

At 6 degrees C river was warmer than the 4 degree C air temperature. River a bit high for any wading but very pleased with thermals and neoprene for the little wading done. Very interesting beat well cared for, with taking spots at all heights well explained, by Mich. Looking forward for session later in season. If I were a salmon I think I would keep my head down deep or even stay in the sea at 8 degree C.

Cloudy cold 6C weather, cloudy grey green cold 40F water, 1'5" Fownhope gauge, falling very slowly. Fly fished Stones, Doghole, Gabions, Upper Lines, Maddox, Corner & Vanstone with 1.5" & 1.0" brass tubes on fast sinking lines. No touches or sightings of fish. Will be back when water warms up and is a little lower after next spate in April. A good beat.
