Rained nearly all day. Didn't effect the river levels which were very low. Fished the lower sections in several swims managing a small salmon and 2 small chub on a maggot feeder. Alternated between maggots and pellet feeder and fished till the light faded.
It's a beautiful stretch of the Wye but a word of warning the cows in the lower section are very inquisitive and were a pain in the ass. 2 even broke away from the herd and charged at me. Thankfully I was able to scale a large tree to escape.

Four good sized Grayling on small nymphs, (size 18). A few takes on the dry but after some rain they had gone down really. A few Salmon Parr as well. This beat is really accessible and a pleasure to fish. It was also very easy to navigate with named pools. A wading staff and felt/studded boots were required.

11 x grayling 6-14 inches, 4 x out of season trout 12-15 inches, nymphs on French Leader. A grayling day near home for a change. The water is still extremely low, so I reached the end of the beat by 2.30, just doing the deeper parts. The grayling were mostly shots, but a couple of nice ones. Has anybody else noticed how remarkably blue/lilac the shining flanks of Monnow grayling are, compared with fish from the Wye, Irfon or any other tributary? Of the out of season trout, the three larger ones were stock fish, presumably from the Tregate Anglers water below. Nice looking fish, but blue dye spots on the belly removed any possible doubt.

12 grayling to 1.5lb and a couple of out of season trout. First time Czech nymphing so very pleased! Will be back to try again once I find out where my waders are leaking from! (Water is starting to get cold!)

Mid Wales is as beautiful as anywhere on the planet at the moment with the Autumn colours coming to a peak. The fishing however was tough with very little action. With the river so low I can only think that angling pressure over the last few days has put what feeding fish there were into a sulk. There were a few rises to the odd sedge and pale watery down by the church but floating leaves made presenting a dry fly tricky.I always love fishing here and having the back ground sound of the British Army playing with their 50 caliber machine guns and heavy artillery up on the range makes you keep your head down!

Posting for 2 days (26/27). River low and clear. Fishing quite hard with location the key. RD 8 barbell (best 9.6) and 2 chub. EH 6 barbel (best 9.8) and 1 chub (plus 3 minnows!). Eventually a good 2 days. Nice beat - thanks WUF.

Started 10 AM first chub after 3 hours, both barbel came at dusk. This beat has produced numerous barbel through out the day previously, however the recent cold nights may have impacted on the feeding habits. River level just exposing the rapids up stream, good flow but lots of debris and weed catching the line. Excellent day all the same.
