Started fishing the fast water by the island had a couple of chub, but no barbel. Moved upstream late morning and caught barbel steadily up till dark. Fantastic days fishing. All fish caught on standard ledger tactics using Elips pellets as bait.

I did not manage to catch but had a lot of rises to dry fly. Either the fish were too quick or I had lost my touch today. Fished from about 14:30 to 17:30

Conditions seemed good. Overcast and river was up 1' with a bit of colour. Fish didn't seem to be playing ball today and only enticed 2 chub. Not a sign of barbel. Had a few hours pike fishing to but to no avail although The stretch does look perfect habitat for both species. Suppose I was due a slow one as the last two visits have been fantastic fishing although that was on different beats. 1st time I have fished this one but sure it has its days. Still better than being at work. Access is a dream but be careful not to bottom out when pulling into the field. Won't be everyone's cup of tea as banks are very "commercial". Fish caught in the pylon swim
Thanks wuf

2nd time on this beat and the river was even lower than in Sept, CH fished the woods for 2 chub, BT fished the croy in the 1st field and had lots of roach, I fished middle of the 1st field and lost 2 barbel. Still a very enjoyable day though.

First time on a WUF beat, first time for grayling and trying out a new rod, so a lot to get used to. The river was low but clear and over a full day two grayling came to the net along with a tiny brown trout. Nothing rising so nymphing was the method and the successful flies were a gold head hares ear and a gold head pink nymph. Did see a salmon splashing it's way upstream. Overall a pleasant introduction to the WUF waters.

Although the river was at a reasonable level, loads of floating weeding kept fouling our lines making fishing difficult. Tried a variety of baits from pellets to meat but really struggled for bites.

Mild calm day offered good conditions. Enjoyed some good sport including watching various salmon showing throughout the beat. Access was excellent with evidence of what must have been a large job to clear the foot path along the river bank.

A wonderful day spent in this magical little valley. Walking along the track to start at the bottom of the beat, the lack of any noise - aside from my footfall - was incredible.
Indeed, the only sounds I heard all day were the occasional kronking call of a pair of ravens echoing off the valley sides, the chiding song of numerous wrens (seemingly mocking some of my more wayward casts) and the soft cursing of the angler, as I made a hash of another approach to a particularly fishy looking run.
That said, a steady number of Grayling came to hand throughout the day, plus an acrobatic 14inch oos Trout. Czech nymphs accounted for all fish, despite half an hour covering a small pod of rising fish in the afternoon hatch.
The majority of the Grayling were in the 12-14 inch bracket, but I am still kicking myself at the loss of a fish well over 2lb that I played for over five minutes, and almost netted twice, before it slipped the hook. I thought I had hooked the bottom to begin with...but then it began to move!
Lyepole really is a stunning beat and never fails to put a smile on the face - thanks WUF.
