Another very hot and sunny day. Chub were active all day especially from 6pm onward when it was a fish a chuck. Although I've report 16, it might have been more because quite frankly I lost count. Generally the chub were a good size with a high percentage 4lb+. On the barbel front, had a good fish early afternoon (low 9's) and a smaller fish around 4lb during the late chub rush.

The water is desperately low at the moment. I've never seen it so low. Hopefully this weekend's rain will help.
I saw many coarse fish and caught a lovely 1lb barbel I think it was. I saw a few trout, but mostly coarse fish.
I also found a poacher. Words were exchanged, and he refused to leave. I have written to the WUF about the incident.

Returned to this beat which I fished yesterday. Late afternoon and evening - a rise at about 20.00 hours but couldn't connect. Nil catch.

A beat with every type of trout water all in a doable length with an amazing head of largely uncatchable fish. 30 degree heat and full sun on low water taught this angler a lesson. Namely, one can't be fine, small and far off enough. The evening rise evened the odds somewhat.

Fished the meadow using various boilies with a feeder. The weather was hot and sunny and the river very low and as I expected fishing was very tough indeed-in fact not a bite all day. Canoe traffic was relentless and there was also some evidence of apparent poaching-the remains of a fire and quite a lot of litter left behind. Nevertheless a very enjoyable day as always-thank you WUF.

Great fun today - glorious weather but plenty of shade in the river which was crystal clear but not too low. Found the smaller trout in nearly every fast run and glide willing to come up to a small black or dark gray Klink, ended up catching 15 at 6" to 9" and missing many more. Also a few parr, plenty of fish in this stream! The bigger brethren were keeping their heads down, but what an enjoyable day nevertheless.

Virtually no flow - fish taken in what faster moving pools I could find. All caught on weighted nymph. Nothing big caught - best trout was 8" best grayling was 10". Also caught one par.
Within the beat description it tells us that wading in the wooded areas is difficult as is access in and out of river. This is too true! A large part of the lower beat (downstream from foot bridge) is incredibly deep and dangerous to wade but fishing from the bank is not an option.
I was a little disappointed at this as £20 to fish it does not represent good value as large parts of it are inaccessible - barbed wire fences with no safe crossing places and fallen trees across river made it doubly difficult. Once I got to the wooded area towards the upstream limit I gave up and went home having only fished about 25% of the beat. I am reasonably fit and strong too - an older, less agile person would really struggle here.
