What a day! Weather was overcast, river was fairly coloured but with a good flow on it. We couldn't stop catching Chub at first and as the day drew closer to 4pm the Barbel moved in! Between us we managed 18 Barbel, average weights of 5-7pb with a 10pb corker that my Dad caught at the end! (Jammy...) Really well kept stretch with very accessible banks, you can fish the whole stretch no problem. There are some runs with a lot more streamer weed than others but overall okay. With a total fish count of 27 we really can't complain! One of the best days fishing we've had. Thanks Wye&Usk - we'll be back.

Very weedy conditions. Over cast day. Slow going until late evening. Managed 2 immaculate chub, 4.5lbs & 3lbs on freelined meat between weed beds in front of boys rock. Also lost a large Barbel!! Enjoyed my first time on the Wye. Learnt a few things about the river for next time.

Not even a bite, just like fishing in a duck pond.

Had a superb day on this beat. The river was low and the weather was warm but overcast. Because of the depths of the pools on this beat the low flows do not make to much difference and if anything makes it easier to reach them harder runs at the back of the pools. Fished with an 8ft 3 weight for maximum fun. Caught most fish in the top 1 foot of water drifting home tied black and olive spiders which I was testing for a trip to the river Wharfe in September. Also had a few straight off the top on klinkerhammers. Wanted to pick up a few more bigger trout but the grayling were getting there first. All the grayling were around 10-15 inches and the few trout I had were a bit smaller. Most of the fish I caught were from Ash Tree pool which seems to be stacked with grayling. I must have fished that pool for about 4 hours straight and the bites and rises still hadn't dried up when I finally decided to get out and have a walk further down. Came back later that day and caught a few more before I went home. All in all another brilliant day here and I will be returning for some winter grayling in the new year.

River very low. Weather sunny and hot. Arrived early afternoon to find a canoe party had taken over the area around the island and were enjoying a swim. Fished upstream near the end of the footpath on meat. Two very large eels resulted. After a few hours the area around the island went quiet and I was able to fish the faster water. A decent chub came to trotted meat. Changing to pellet and feeder produced no bites over a number of hours so I moved back to the slacker water upstream and took three good chub of 3-4 pounds, losing a number of other fish in the weed. Again pellet was ineffective. A Kingfisher in the tree opposite proved a better fisherman than me, taking prey on every dive.

17 x trout 6-13 inches, 10 x grayling 8-14 inches, various parr and small chublets, on a Grey Duster and Hair Wing Sedge. A day of small things and a slow start, rather cold and bright. However, by early afternoon a few were rising and sedges were in evidence on the surface. Had to leave at three, to fish the Loughor at Pontardulais - a beautiful warm night, but no sewin seen on this occasion and none of the promised meteorites either.
