Virtually no flow - fish taken in what faster moving pools I could find. All caught on weighted nymph. Nothing big caught - best trout was 8" best grayling was 10". Also caught one par.
Within the beat description it tells us that wading in the wooded areas is difficult as is access in and out of river. This is too true! A large part of the lower beat (downstream from foot bridge) is incredibly deep and dangerous to wade but fishing from the bank is not an option.
I was a little disappointed at this as £20 to fish it does not represent good value as large parts of it are inaccessible - barbed wire fences with no safe crossing places and fallen trees across river made it doubly difficult. Once I got to the wooded area towards the upstream limit I gave up and went home having only fished about 25% of the beat. I am reasonably fit and strong too - an older, less agile person would really struggle here.

Fishing:Winter Grayling
No. of Anglers:1
A very enjoyable and successful day fishing almost the whole beat under the expert guidance of Oliver Burch. Most of the grayling came from the deeper pools to one or other of a two nymph duo fished at varying depths. There were a couple of pools where grayling were rising sporadically and around five of these eagerly took a parachute grey duster. A less warm day than expected and the excellent cover from trees more than compensated.
In the early afternoon as we were accessing pools in the top half, a man and his son were walking back towards us with at least ten Signal crayfish that they had found under stones further up the beat. Great eating and they were happy but hardly positive in other respects.
Many thanks to Oliver for a great day, both very instructive and interesting. My knowledge of river fishing history to current, has taken a giant leap foward. Now all I have to do is remember it all.

First time on this beat, conditions were not ideal with blue skies and high temperatures. Fish came throughout the day to pellet feeder and trotted meat. Will definitely return when water levels are higher. Yet another stunning and peaceful stretch of the river Wye which is a credit to WUF for enabling access.

A hot sunny day with the river low and clear. As anyone knows when you fish this stretch on a hot summers day, don't expect a nice quiet days fishing. Apart from the usual canoes and paddle boarders, most of the local population turn up with their dogs and children and seem to be determined to interfere as much as possible with anglers fishing by swimming up and down through the anglers swims despite there being 100's of yards of unoccupied bank where they could have swam until their hearts content with out directly interfering with anglers. Apart from that, had 6 barbel up to high 7's and a few chub.
At £45.00 this stretch is very expensive so one would expect the land owner to have some control over the local population (who seem to have little respect for other river users) on his land..!

Hot and sunny day and the river was low and clear. A lot of weed and other vegetation was coming down which made keeping a line in the water for any length of time difficult. So quite pleased to end the day with 3 chub and a couple of barbel. Lost 3 or 4 others due to varying degrees of incompetence. Brother managed a couple of nice barbel.
