Spent a pleasant few hours trotting for chub. Managed about a dozen modest chub including one about four pounds.

River in good nick but needed a bit more water to encourage holding Salmon to move. Heavy canoe traffic until late afternoon.
1 Chub caught on a large Salmon fly on the Maddox.
Several residents giving an acrobatic display at the tail of the Vanstone. Tried every method known to Falkus to get them to take the fly but to no avail.
Treated to spectacular display of angling skills by a team of Kingfishers picking off fry on the margins. If only they could talk, perhaps they could give me a few hints!
Excellent and entertaining day though.

A foot of water showing on the Llanstephan gauge, quite warm with an upstream wind at times. Very little surface activity. Almost all fish came from the Abernant pool, mostly grayling with a best of about 14". Olive spiders and beadhead nymph accounting for most. The 10 'other' were salmon parr jumping on the beadhead at the end of the drift.

Warm and overcast, with only a slight breeze, gave us ideal conditions; and lower water meant we could wade through long sections of the beat.
Almost all of our fish were taken from the top half of the beat - from the bridge downstream, and were caught using very small nymph and spider patterns (PTNs, Copper Johns, Iron Blue Nymphs, Greenwells Spiders). All fish were in great condition (best to about 1.5 lbs) and all safely returned.
Long sections of the banks have become heavily overgrown, so access needs to be chosen carefully, and caution exercised when getting in and out of the water (a wading staff is highly recommended).

I fished a bit of the Taf Fechan and loved every moment - a stunning little stream that must contain the fast taking brownies in Britain. I missed five times as many takes as fish landed including a couple of decent sized fish. Can't wait to come back.

Taf at Afon Taf School. Warm, sunny evening 1800-2045. River v. slightly coloured. Fish rising in deeper slow pools and runs. All fish taken on Black Klinkhammer (16) after hatch of black sedges. 1.25lb, 3x 0.5lb, 10" BT all returned.
Lovely stretch of river with free rising and very acrobatic fish.
NB Access not obvious from MAA map; suggest parking in large bus/car park on W side of river (postcode CF48 4ES) then walk downstream to easy access points.
Many thanks to MAA. (Staying at the excellent Mount Pleasant Hotel in Merthyr Vale)

Sunny day on the river. Water very low, but still some nice little pools. Rose plenty of fish on the dry, and dropped a couple of surprisingly solid brownies for such a small stream. Two came to hand, around 8 inches or so. Parachute adams and elk hair caddis did the work. Lovely little stream for some 3wt action.

Fished the afternoon here. Glorious sun into the evening. Many rising fish about a third of the way up the beat. Decent hatch of sedge had the fish excited and active, rising consistently all afternoon. Three beautiful wilds came to the net, the largest being maybe 1/2 lb - all super fighters. Fished caddis, and at one point they went nuts for a sparsely tied cdc. Beautiful stretch of river.
