Another lovely day albeit with slight, fresh downstream breeze. Saw odd rise (maybe 2 or 3 all day) but we expected more given previous day (on another beat). There was also a flush hatch of March Brown at around 12.45pm (not LDOs surprisingly of which there were very few) but if the fish were taking these it was occurring sub-surface. Great to see them though. My experience (fishing once or twice each year in early season) is that this fly is making something of a comeback on the Usk. Does anyone share that view? Pair of Goosander and one Cormorant shared beat with us and doubtless fished better.

Lovely day. Warm and sunny and water 9 degrees C. A mini LDO hatch at about 11am - 13:00. Some fish rising. Landed one nice trout although in poor condition following the sustained high flows. I suspect he floods have scoured out the invertebrates a little resulting in a bit less fly life around than usual, but I have no doubt the river will recovery quickly and flooding is vital natural process in any case with many benefits to the river. The trout caught was on a CDC dry fly dun - saw him rise and then woomph! Great to be back on the water and what a magnificent river!

First fishing day of the season and great to wet a line. Tried heavy weighted nymphs ie hare's ear & pheasant tail nymph with a team of spiders to no avail. On the moments the sun came out also tried an up stream dry such as a klinkhammer but no takers. No bites all day. Nevertheless it was a bright and sunny Spring day.

Two nice brownies, the biggest about a pound caught on a gold head hare's ear. The river was running clear and a few fish were rising to the dry. A very enjoyable morning.

Superb conditions, 1 kelt on beat 2. Nothing seen other than that. Coarse fishing seems slow also perhaps the spawning is early this year?
