Arrived at the river to find it very low and clear so initial hopes were not high. However, within 20 minutes of setting up on the left bank just down from the bridge I was in to a barbel. 9 more followed during the day reasonably evenly spaced with 4 chub mixed in. An absolutely fantastic days fishing; my first coarse fishing foray on the Wye and one I will not forget in a hurry. The beat is very quiet and attractive to look at with easy access on both banks. A few canoes came through during both the morning and the afternoon but this did not seem to negatively impact on the fishing. I stuck with 8mm pellets and feeder all day and concentrated on getting the fish feeding in one swim Be careful of the snags which seemed plentiful. Left the beat at 7pm when the fish were still biting hard but had to get home.

Good day. Fished free lined bread. All barbel around 7lbs, chub around 4lbs. Bites in the morning were typically rod off the rest, afternoon from 3ish very very shy. At first I thought it was fry, then struck into one and it was a good chub.

River pretty low, plenty of fish rising but easily spooked, only managed to hook one grayling of about 9"on Klink and Dink. All the same we enjoyed our day on a lovely beat.

On the two occasions I have fished this lake before, carp have been cruising on the surface and/or visible stirring up the silt. Today although bright weather we did not see more than 3 carp all day. We baited swims all along the lake but never saw any signs of carp coming to feed on them. Nothing attempted to take any floaters. Martin managed a very small one at 2 lb or so. Some small bream and roach too on sweetcorn.

River and water condition were good. Weather sunny/cloudy. No sign of any migratory fish. Many sights of resident brown trout. In the afternoon changed tackle and fished afterwards for brownies with some success. All returned to the river.

Found a swim in the thickly weeded runs: loose weed coming down constantly made it tricky. No barbel showing today but had 5 chub between 3 and 5 pounds on luncheon meat. This stretch was thick with massive shoals of dace and chublets; did some trotting and managed to get through to a few impressive dace to 8oz. Very enjoyable day.

The river was at normal summer level and the fishing was slightly more difficult than normal as all day lots of weed was coming down, probably due to cutting going on higher up. The better barbel went over 8lbs and chub to 4lb. My son had all the barbel on ledgered pellet. I caught a few fish trotting tares and feeding hemp and I had a nice barbel on paste in the evening that weighed 8lb 2oz. All in all a good afternoons fishing on a warm sunny day, many thanks.
