Took Dad on a trip for his 75th. Arrived at the bank around 12. Expected there to be MUCH more water on the beat after the heavy rain earlier in the week. Level was VERY low? Walked the entire length of the beat upstream. Saw maybe 3 fish moving and nothing rising. Upstream to the upper limit extremely difficult. Lots of fallen trees in the river and planting to the field made it impossible to fish. Returned midway and fished some of the deeper pools. No fish moving and nothing taking either dry or wet. Top or sinking. Had some lunch and began to fish downstream. More fish seen moving but nothing biting. No rise despite a hatch around 4pm. Stayed until 7pm. No rise, no fish seen moving. A disappointing day fish wise.
Wildlife: - Lovely Kingfisher sprinting around the mid section of the beat. Observed a Heron all day, he too seemed to come back empty handed. Watched a Kestrel? take a field mouse.
All in all an enjoyable day in tranquil countryside just a pity there were no fish :-(

Fishing:Salmon

First day out this year. After an hour using a size 12 shrimp pattern had a gentle pull at the bottom of the Bathing Pool and then a good take and fight from an approx 10lb salmon (returned of course. It was reasonably fresh. The river was a nice height for the fly but there was a cold wind and there was no further action for me that day.

A happy day both fishing and listening to the Test Match.

Our first visit to Craig Lynn which we thoroughly enjoyed. We did find wading tricky, both of us getting a wetting - large rocks were difficult to negotiate although there were quite a few runs which had large gravels making wading much easier. River was clear with a good flow.
Fish were taken on both drys and nymphs with the nymph taken fish liking a moving target, several taken on the pull when recovering for the next cast. A lot of fly coming off in the late afternoon but no frantic rise - just the odd fish coming up.

Fished for an hour with the children between 8 and 9pm, shared one rod between 3 of us. Caught and returned 2 good brown trout (1lb and 1.5lb). Used upstream nymphing through broken water with Black Pennel on dropper and gold bead GRHE, both fish took dropper.
River was dropping and clear. Lots of rising fish. Will definitely return when I have a bit more time.

Third visit to this fantastic beat. The river conditions were spot on up over two feet from the recent rain with a good bit of colour.
I fished one of the croys early in the day with little success only a few chub caught (my wife preferred this area it was warm and sunny) can't complain she brought the picnic nothing better than smoked salmon bagels and glass of something sparkling sat by the Wye in the sunshine. I then moved to the favoured part of the beat and wow I didn't stop catching for four hours barbel and chub every cast, feeder fished pellet was the method it was pushing though to much for me to present a bait on the float I did try and couldn't get them going.
It was nice as always to have a chat to Colin and thanks to him for his help and advice.
One of the best days fishing I have had in many years. Looking forward to next time.
Thanks to the WUF for providing the best course fishing beat on the river

Water level low and very clear, big contrast to the Wye two days earlier. Saw quite a few fish mostly upstream of the parking spot but seems they were not feeding or very spooky. Access not impossible but had to limbo under some barbed wire fences.
