2 x sewin 1.5 and 2 pounds on Secret Weapon and Surface Lure. New fish are in the pools since the higher water of last few days including a few larger ones showing, but only small fish taken from a pool tail tonight. Clear sky and resulting temperature drop/mist by 1 o'clock.

Area:Upper Wye
Beat:Llangoed & Lower Llanstephan
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:2
Salmon were showing in Llangoed pool. No takes. 1 Trout from rapids (returned). No rise evident, in spite of huge hatches of sedges, but enjoyable fishing nonetheless.N.B. The boat needs fixing - one of the rowlocks from an oar has come away - an old repair seems to have given in following gradual wear and tear. Rowing was difficult but not impossible without it.

First time to this beat, took a friend Howard who had never fished a river with fly rod nor ever caught a grayling on rod and line. We made our way to the bottom of the beat, the river looking a little coloured, and the weather warm, cloudy and very little wind. We started on the dry and I caught a grayling on the dry and Howard had his first grayling shortly after.
Both missed several others before Howard had his second, after this we started moving up the beat. The wind got progressively worse as the day went on and a strong downstream wind made dry fly presentation difficult so we switched to nymphing. Howard had a little brownie, whereas I caught seven grayling. Oddly the only thing they seemed interested in was a white coloured czech nymph.
The Wading at this beat is easier at the lower end, but there are areas with large boulders further up that make wading tricky. So tricky that I took a nice refreshing dip!Overall this beat has so much to go at, some nice pocket water, dry fly flats, gullies, deep holes and fast runs. Really enjoyed the day and will definitely return to this beat, thanks WUF.

Nice beat, plenty of water in and not much colour - some healthy aqua-weed. Fished below the bridge which has a couple of access stiles. Some good looking sea-trout lies but fished for a couple of hours for brownies. There had been some rain - how would this river look after a few weeks without? Little rising but had two small brownies on Para Adams (Klink and dink) - another two got away. Lost a bit of tackle to snags above and below surface.

Got there early enough to watch the sun rise over the mountains. So pleased I made the effort. Fishing wise caught 2 carp and 1 chub. Fairly slow fishing, most seemed to be a long way out. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Thanks

River looked good and fished with feeder and pellets and rolling meat in several swims with very little signs of fish with the exception of 2 eels that for a brief moment raised my hopes. Did loose a fish early evening that snapped off and was almost certainly a good Barbel and thought it was not to be my day.
Thankfully my day was saved with a very late Barbel to 10 Lbs 4oz that came to rolling meat in the very last light of the day and almost certainly my last cast. My first double on the Wye made my long drive home a very happy one.

Didn't start fishing till 5pm was a very busy and enjoyable evening landing 10 barbel best one going 10:10 and lost two. Whoever fished the swim in the middle of the woods the day or so before, don't worry I took your carrier bag of rubbish home, disgusting leaving that much litter about!
(Thank you, WUF)
