This was our first time on LCB and it really is a stunning (and peaceful) beat. The fishing wasn't so much about how many we caught though but about how many we lost unfortunately! The fish here are very wise and constantly managed to offload the hook into the streamer weed... we must have lost well over 10 fish (mostly barbel) during the course of the day. Even wading out and trying to lessen the angle to the fish didn't even help. It was nice to catch a couple of fish on the float though even if I lost way more than I caught!
However, as with the previous day, this was more of a social trip so the amount being caught wasn't really an issue, it was just glorious to be in such wonderful surroundings catching the odd fish here and there.
Will definitely be back again.
Note to WUF - the swims on the top half of the beat could really do with some clearing.

Conditions were not good at all. River was low, clear and the sun was beaming down all day. Managed one chub around lunch time on meat. We really worked the stretch trying all tactics and different swims but could not bag a barbel until 6:30pm, the sun started to go behind the trees and bites started to come thick and fast. Although fish were biting we could not get a decent take so changed to a longer hooklink then boom 4 barbel in an hour and half all on crab boilie. My mate also had 2 eels and lost a barbel. Good end to a tough day.

Wanted to try a single handed rod here having fished earlier in the season with heavier fly gear. Low clear water made for very easy wading and showed up some very interesting details of the riverbed. Well worth the visit just for that; a deep cut in the bedrock at one point which was a revelation and a huge pocket/lie completely out of context with any signs on the surface.
As for the fishing; too many Chub. My apologies to the coarse anglers amongst you but if you can't 'bag up' here then take up golf! Just paddle out from the left bank to the drop-off and see if you can count them all....
I finally managed to avoid the pests and land some decent trout of around the pound mark by fishing just under the surface of the faster water with a #6 double Bann Shrimp....
Surprisingly few canoes for a Saturday and remarkably well behaved, especially the serious outdoorsy types...

Great days angling. James and Chris caught pb barbel each. The canoes were pretty well constant for the best part of 6 hours. However, this didn't spoil the fishing. The ranuculus weed problem was still evident, however not as bad as before. Funny there are fewer larger chub coming out this year. All caught on feeder and pellet.

14 Barbel to 10lb, 9 Chub to 6lb. All caught on halibut pellets or meat with feeder. Probably would have caught more if it was not for continual canoeists coming down the river in groups preventing fishing. Great days fishing anyway.

First visit to this beat. Nice looking stretch of river with plenty of swims in the wooded area of the beat. However despite trying several spots we only had one chub to show for our efforts.

I decided to spend the morning going to have a look at the reservoir, at the head of the valley - about an hour's walk from the forestry car park. Worth the walk but got me tired. A bothy at the head of the reservoir but evidence here and elsewhere of unsympathetic patronage: bon fires/litter etc. How do they get up here? Not the types to walk?
Spent an hour and a half on the river beat pm, river low and clear. Too tired to do much. Wellies sufficed. Caught 2 lovely wbt on hare's ear nymph: 9" and 12" both safely returned. Lovely spot - how about the reservoir Wye and Usk?
WUF Note: We believe a private syndicate have recently taken the fishing on the reservoir.
