The river was in perfect early autumn condition and the fishing proved to be excellent. One rod managed 19 barbel from a swim in the woods, best 8lb plus with all falling to pellet and feeder tactics. The other rod caught 11 barbel from swims in the woods and also later from the field below the woods and the best fish of the day at nearly 9lbs. Every swim tried produced bites and this was river Wye fishing at its best.

30 Barbel, 5 Chub

Great day, river in good condition, fished the Church Stream Pool, had 6 Barbel during the morning then the last 3 in the last 90 minutes. Most fish between the 5-6lb range, 1 of 8lb 8ozs and the best of 10b 2ozs. All fish caught on Elips pellets.

9 Barbel, 1 Chub

I caught 2 trout but one broke away. Weather was good, most enjoyable time.

Nice beat with plenty of places to fish, all fish caught on the feeder and pellets river in good condition. I will book this beat again, thank you.

2 Barbel, 5 Chub

Water levels were good though the weather was dull and drizzly. A very varied and intriguing beat with deep pools, shallow flats and fast water. Using a gold head nymph took a couple of half-pound fish from a pool next to a raised beach below the road bridge (is this marked on the beat map?). Thereafter things went very quiet. Only there for the afternoon so did not have the chance to explore the length of this beat - apparently the upper section can be the most profitable.
On my next foray to Usk and Wye valleys will definitely return to try this beat. I have found the passport and Foundation generally incredibly helpful - they have really opened the door to me to all the marvellous waters in the Welsh borders and beyond.

2 Trout

Day 1 was a blank the river had risen and there was lots of weed coming through dislodging the feeders and causing snags.

Warm, sunny and cloudy spells. River starting to come up, not too much colour. Still on the feeder with mag. Barbel up to 8lbs, most 5lbs upwards. Chub up to 4 1/2lbs.
got bitten off three times! 3 x by Chub and a Pike. Hard walk back up the slope again.

17 Barbel, 13 Chub

None caught. Water fairly coloured and no sign of fish today.

Ten pound fresh fish on a size ten cascade and a six pound fresh grilse on a black and gold FC(grilse returned).
River conditions good with water clearing.

2 Salmon

River looking good with clear water. Trout caught on dries towards the end of the beat, also 3 grayling. Trout caught between 10.5 and 17 inches, grayling up to just under the pound. 2 grayling caught on nymphs in the deeper faster runs. Very pleasant day on a new beat (for us).
