Boiling hot day, but the river was in good condition with a little colour and dropping by few inches. Barbel and chub fed regularly throughout the session, all caught in the fastest water on 10mm boilies.

Very hot day and many people enjoying & splashing around in the river! But hey, why not?
So went to top of the beat and found fish in the broken water, especialy above the main salmon pool, a tricky wade above the waterfall but many fish here.

Fished from noon until 9.45pm. Hot and sunny with some light cloud. Temp approx 30C. Water temp 19C so not conducive to good fishing. Various small flies in evidence with some sedge in evening. Caught 2 modest trout (10oz and 6oz) on dry fly.

Plenty of trout rising to midges, terrestrials and the odd olive. Caught all but one on the dry; either a bastard adams or a deer hair emerger. Most were around a pound except for one at 16".
I did briefly put a olive copper john nymph on, around the middle of the day, and caught a trout of about 1/2 pound.

4 wbt - dries and nymphs. Really frustrating experience, I had to see off a poacher on the opposite bank to the car park who was using spinning tackle, he was reluctant to leave. He had no net, I suspect fish welfare wasn't his priority. Then a few hours later I had stalked a good rising fish for 20 minutes only for a portly lady who claimed to be a tenant of the landowner to give me a cheery wave then dive right in to the area where the fish was rising - five rod lengths away from me.
WUF Note: Please report any suspected poaching to NRW's emergency line on 0800 80 70 60 as soon as possible.

Very hot and bright. River coloured. Luncheon meat and hemp. Saw salmon leaping, kingfishers and mink. It's a fair trek up the hill if you're carrying heavy gear. Tranquility guaranteed.

A stunning beat with good access. We fished mainly upstream of the line of trees and battled very high temperatures, bright sunlight and high pressure all day. Despite this the padawan winkled out two beautiful barbel including a PB of 8/6 while the "master" just roasted in the sun. The usual tactics were successful (for one) and everything bar the kitchen sink failed for the other. We saw a couple of anglers on the opposite bank but each gave the other space and respect. Overall a truly wonderful 3 days on the majestic Wye - now an established annual pilgrimage from West Yorkshire - long may it continue. Huge thanks to WUF - undoubtedly one of our hero organisations in an uncertain world.
