Area:Usk
Beat:Dinas
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:2
Overcast conditions augured well for this first visit to Dinas, but the cloud cover was accompanied by an unremitting downstream wind which kept surface action to a minimum. A (very wide) variety of flies and styles produced only one 11" fish, but the potential of this beat was plain to see.

What an end to another great four days on the Wye. The best barbel today was 8.06 and chub were to about 3.08 (estimated). All fish were caught on feeder and different pellet combinations and at times the bites came within seconds of casting in. There were also spells when the bites dried up and we had to wait a couple of hours before the feeding resumed.

This was my 1st time fishing rod Wbt so apprehensive, I had fished rivers for years so was able to provide so expert knowledge. Arrived at 8am, light drizzle, but very muggy air. A few rises by the bridge. Walked the whole beat but no other rises till the very end, where I caught my 1st Wbt, lovely fish, fought hard best of day, a good 10 ins. We walked the beat back still nothing. Had very nice lunch at the Bell. In afternoon, there a slow hatch of mays started towards the bridge so concentrated on this area. Was able to lure 2 smaller Wbt, in-between a group of children playing & swimming in river by the bridge. Unfortunately my friend did not connect, rose a few. Overall good 1st time. Will be back. AB

River still dropping with a bit of colour left in it, we baited up a number of swims and moved between them, started picking up the odd chub and barbel but s bit slow, I moved to the faster water and caught a couple of barbel and lots of chub late on.

Beat:Llanddewi
Fishing:Trout (River)

Not fished the Ithon before, I was tempted by the ease of casting considering the time of year on the streams. Absolutely marvellous beat, so much water to fish and fortunately today there was 100% cloud cover which helped for such an open beat. 3x wbt 6 - 8 ins via duo , both nymph and dry. Switched to size 14 Griffiths gnat as I approached the first flat between the fallen trees... 16 1/2 ins of wbt took me all over the place ! Really wasn't expecting this , such a strong fighting fish superb sport. Held against the rod and then rod measured back at the car with a tape, expecting 14 ins, shocked as I counted it off. One of 11/12 ins followed and another of 8ins. Lost one more and missed quite a few other in the runs down the left then right banks. Great fishing everywhere so didn't even get half way up the beat, a return visit is a definite.
