Arrived with high hopes given the decent water and was not disappointed. SL landed a stonking, slightly coloured hen fish of 40" and estimated at around 25lb. Very deep bodied and in great condition. Along with the usual accompaniment of grayling and trout this was a great way to end the season.

After losing a heavy barbel early on, a 4lbs 9oz rub a dub on free-lined cheese was most welcome in the coloured, swiftly flowing water below Boy's Rocks. OB, "the barbel botherer" was in the wire swim, from which he took 4 barbel to 8lbs 8oz during the day, also losing a big pike. My best barbel went 6lbs 8oz, a new pb, as was the 2lb eel that insisted on snaffling my bait during the otherwise quiet period in the middle of the day.
Anyone who thinks the banks are steep or inaccessible needs to visit the Bristol Avon below Chippenham. Compared to that abseiling territory, the Wye here is like a day at the beach, and what a lovely day it was!

A great day, the river had dropped and there wasn't the same amount of debris coming down river. I had 2 barbel to 7lb 3oz in the morning and then 3 to 7lb 4oz in the early evening. All fish from the bottom pool.

The river had dropped further but still high with some colour. Had to work hard for our fish. Nymph produced nothing but there was the odd fish rising very occasionally and if covered with a very small dry fly they usually took it, although not all were hooked. Three rods ended the day with 8 grayling, average size well over 1lb, with two best fish 2lb 4ozs and 2lb 2ozs. Difficult fishing but good fun and a pleasing result.

River falling from approx 1ft to 9 inches on Brecon gauge after rain 3 days earlier which brought river up to over 1ft 6inch at Brecon. Thought there might have been the chance of a salmon. Not a fish seen. Tried a range of flies in all the named pools to no avail!

Great beat with the better pegs seeming to be towards the Lugg. Water had slight colour and a sunny sky. Fished with meat and pellets, very long walk if unable to drive down track but ok if dry.

River nice colour and dropping fast, but fish were very hard to locate. One rod caught just a single chub at the lower end of the beat. The other rod fished a number of swims along the upper half of the beat, catching 4 barbel of 7lb 0oz, 7lb 4oz, 7lb 13oz, and 9lb 13oz. A good average size for the Wye. In these higher water conditions we had the feeling the bulk of the fish were in the deeper runs along the far bank. the pace was too fast to fish across. A heavy feeder with halibut pellet was the successful method.

Whitney, Sunday, one fish seen. Water probably too coloured for fly.
