Fishing was very patchy and made harder by bright sunshine and lots of weed coming down the river. One rod faired well by the bridge with three barbel to 9lbs, whilst another managed one barbel and an eel. The remaining two rods blanked despite fishing very hard and covering the whole beat. It's the first blank I've had in three years and many visits. Access to the stretch by car is very good so it's a convenient stretch to fish. Good fun was had by all as always on the River Wye.

Quite a nice beat but would benefit from a little work. Great for left handers as most of the casting is from the bank so not really possible to double spey or snake roll. I can fish left handed but its not as easy as fishing right handed and due to the overhanging trees on the far bank some accuracy is required. Would just about support two rods with decent water but in low water there would only be enough fishing for one rod. Had a coloured cock of about 6lb and five nice trout up to 1.5lb. Also had a few good pulls. A good day out.

Second of two days on courtfield, our party was further reduced today to just the two rods. On arrival, the river looked a little bit friendlier than the day before, having dropped a little and also some of the colour seemed to be fading. We thought we were on for a cracking day, we were so wrong!! Having given it a few hours in legg meadow at the start of the day - just a small chub on trotted maggots to show, we then moved to the fallen tree swim in the woods in the hope of repeating the number of bites from the previous afternoon. I managed a take from a barbel on my first cast, but we then had to wait until about 5.30pm for any more action when we both took a chub each in quick succession. Despite this brightening our mood, the expected feeding spell never materialised and we were left scratching our heads a little, heading home a little crestfallen after three rather trying days.

Very well maintained beat thanks in no doubt to the very helpfull and understanding Colin. River looked in good condition, at long last, and after taking further advice (Colin) had not a bad day with the barbel and chub taking pellet and meat. Well done W&U exellent service. Who needs Caradoc when Holme Lacey is available at nearly half the £.

3 of the guys tried for Salmon all day but no luck.
I had a Grayling of about 1lb from behind the Church. Great weather and the river looked perfect. The only down side of the day was that I lost a top section of my Hardy Angel fly rod in the bushes somewhere between pools 3 and 5.
I will come back next year and try again.

Another warm day with little wind to bring down the leaves. Only the odd rise, a few sedges around and lots of needle flies. Caught lovely trout at 42 cm, it put up a great struggle, and one grayling 40 cm, both on floating black klinkhammer. High visibility fly because the sun was a nuisance for the LH bank. This beat could do with some trimming of canopy to provide more access.
The bull is still in the field, very quiet. A cormorant turned up again at the same spot where there were fish rising. I have a distinct impression now that there are fewer grayling aroung. A most enjoyable day nevertheless.
