Lovely evenings fishing to take my mind off the referundum result. River at 1ft 2" and still carrying a bit of colour (4-5ft vis) which is near perfect for the lower half. Missed one in Rectory and netted a lovely hard fighting 13lber for my friend.

We return here every year and always have a good day. Today was no disappointment, though a little harder than usual with slightly higher water than we're used to in June/July. We had two good fish from the rocks at the top of the beat: me one of about 1.5lbs on a Sawyers and my friend a very nice 3lb wbt on a GRHE. Other than these two, the other three were 8" to 6" on a variety of other nymphs.

River still up a little with some colour. We expected a very good day but the barbel didn't want to play. We managed 3 barbel and 9 chub mostly on pellets.

Travelled light so walk not too bad and settled in to one of the swims in the wood. Started fishing late morning and fish feeding from the start. Loads of bites and missed fish including a carp which was lost at the net. Action stopped abruptly around tea time and that was it. Fish caught on pellet and meat .

A lovely beat, but probably one better suited for salmon than trout, we decided to fish the pocket water down by the rapids, which was excellent sport. 3 nice trout (largest about 1.5lb) all to snipe and purple spiders.

Tough going at Ty Newydd. Cold wind blowing down the valley, but water height good.
Very little fly life and nothing, and I mean nothing, moving on the surface. Reluctantly resorted to nymphing and was rewarded with 3 wbt to 12" and a pristine grayling of around 14". What a beautiful species the grayling is, was besotted with it for a few minutes whilst submersed in the net before it glided off, dignity in tact.

River quite clear, a couple of good hatches where fish were taking from the surface especially right at the bottom of the beat and near the top. Got better towards evening. Grayling caught pretty much by accident about 2 feet from where I was fishing as I was reeling in to head off to the pub.

I was surprised to see the river so high at this time of year and quite coloured. Decided to float fish for first half of the day catching several chub. Then in afternoon when canoes slowed down cast feeder out a few times to feed the swim then rested for 30 mins before casting out. Had a steady run of chub and barbel just into dark up to just over 7lbs and chub to just over 4 pounds. Wonderful place to fish in such beatific surroundings still good value at 25 pounds a day, I will be back.
