We used feeder tactics and caught well late in the day, despite a canoe capsizing right in our swim and the two occupants walking around in the river waiting to be rescued.

The river was low and clear and quite different from the previous weeks. The fishing reflected this.
However still managed 6 barbel and 4 chub. The weather was stunning as was the autumnal look of the sun on the trees. Size wise the barbel went to 9lbs plus and as the two anglers hadn't caught many barbel before they said it was probably one of the best days fishing they had had.

CP and BS from London fished the full beat in the morning, 11am-2.00pm. Water crystal clear and level good. Bright morning sunshine with occasional scattered clouds; little breeze. No fish seen, raised or realeased. With little sign of fish, we moved fairly quickly from the bottom up to the top of the beat, fishing only riffles, pools and holding water; small dry flies. One good trout seen lower end of beat; 2 salmon near the top end of beat.

CP and BS from London fished the lower end of the beat up to the Rubble Pool (mid-beat) in the afternoon, 3.30-6.30pm. Bright sunshine with little/no breeze. Water clear, slightly peat-y and good level. Early week rains brought river up slightly; back down this afternoon. No fish caught; occasional rises in small channel below Rubble pool. Fished mostly nymphs and sub-surface; some dry fly fishing at the Rubble Pool.

Always exciting to fish a previously unfished beat. Easy, safe parking about 5 minutes walk from the beginning of the beat. Water seemed a little low and the early autumn canopy was a hindrance all day. Persevered with dries and winkled out 5 wbt. One a handsome 11"er.
For me the beat improved as you work your way up. Relatively simple wading and I suspect more open and accessible for casting earlier in the season. That's when I shall give this beat another go.
If you have the energy and an early start an angler (Wild Stream Season Permit holder) could carry on and fish the middle section beat as well in a single day. Now there's a thought.
