First trip to the Clettwr this year, thought it would be awake by now. Good flow, very clear, assorted flies hatching. However, saw no rises and struggled to land 3 at 6/7" on para olives. No idea where the trout were, although I could not try nymphs as I had rashly decided to bring only dries, paras and klinks. Two pools blocked out by fallen trees last year now clear, but 3 others are now logjammed. So as well as scrambling and climbing there is the challenge of finding a way through or over woody pile ups...I will return, of course.

Well, it was a nice day to go fishing, bright sunshine throughout, a stiff breeze from the North made the bay uncomfortable by mid morning so I moved to the north bank. One fish seen rising, cast my spinner in front of it and hooked and landed a nice rainbow of about 2lb. On other brief hookup and that was that. Packed up by 11am (been there since 7am). This year I reckon that for me the Usk Reservoir has not been fishing as well as last year, but that's probably down to me only fishing when I have chance and not when conditions are right.

We chose one of the brightest and warmest days of the year, which did not help the fishing, we had a few tugs and one chub for our efforts. The river absolutely abounds with fry at the moment and we saw trout and perch constantly attacking these massive shoals. This is perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of the Wye that we have ever fished and despite our disappointment on the day we will come back.

Fantastic day at a wonderful location, most fish caught on a pheasant tail nymph or dail Bach (not sure of that spelling) All fish were brownies average size about 9-10 inches, & in very good condition. Quite windy but we could comfortably fish the east bank. Would recommend this fishery if you like wild fishing, and peaceful location, we will be back sometime soon.

The weather was almost spot on, but unfortunately rain higher up had left the water carrying some colour, with less than 2ft visibility. Fished the usual deep nymphs initially and took a nice brownie of 9-10" and a grayling slightly larger, both taking a pale GRHE. Sporadic rises meant the dry fly got a run out and a smaller brownie was added to the score, but sadly the rises tapered off in to the afternoon as the NW breeze strengthened and cooled the water.

Fownhope at 11". Water dropping back after a short dirty rise. Fished in the evening as the visibility was just starting to come back. Nothing seen or touched.

It all started so well - a lovely fish to a mayfly pattern in the lower section of the beat. Two more fish on nymphs as I made my way through the broken water - and that was that. Very little activity on the surface despite an abundance of fly life.

Fished the lower half of the beat from the the start to the road bridge half way up. All 25 trout took olive cdc duns fished in the faster water between 11.30 am and 3.30pm . there were a good amount of mayfly on the water but not a single rise to them. On leaving at 3.30pm the trout were just beginning to hit midges in the slacker water at heads of pools and at the tail of pools
