Found the river still coloured but pressed on with the fly, One lost in the bridge pool on 1" tube and another pull in the same area. River dropping in the morning only to rise again through the afternoon. One nice brown taken due to being badly hooked. A lot of fish seen running through all day , some big!! Looking forward to next visit in clear conditions.

Nil return. This fishery is situated in quite a deep valley with steep sided banks so unless the water is low enough to wade you're restricted to roll or speycasting. I tried to cross to the upstream end of the island but hit a deep channel and got swept of my feet and then trapped against a tree bough by the force of water in the channel. I had real difficulty getting back to the bank - a close call that put paid to fishing. The gauge at Trostrey was 1ft 3" and the one at Glanusk 6" when I had my accident so take great care when wading this beat at this water height. At lower water it would probably be quite an interesting place to fish, there was quite a lot of small olives, yellow Mays and the odd mayfly around the fast water by the island. Some very large trout were rising in the deep pool at the downstream end of the beat but getting near them is very difficult because of the very steeply angled banks. To avoid drowning I had to let go of my beige bag with blue trim containing several boxes of flies and an attached tenkara hayase rod in its tube. The boxes are marked with my name Ian Calvert and mobile no - I would be willing to give a reward of £100 for the return of these if anyone finds them.

Area:Upper Wye

Beat:Craig Llyn

Fishing:Salmon

Until today 3 salmon hooked elsewhere and 3 salmon lost. Where better to land my first for the season than the ash tree pool Craig Llyn.A short, fat, fresh run beauty about 10 lbs. The river was slightly high and peaty from the dams, so fished a heavy all yellow pencil fly on very fast sink line cast square across and fished fast through the white water. Looks promising up here given some more wet stuff. Slipped in as usual but not too deep this time.

The fishing was so poor on Tuesday that we did not fish on Wednesday. Please see my report for Tuesday. I would appreciate your comments on your annual netting of this river and presumably an expectation when accepting bookings that fish would be present on this beat.

I caught one brown trout about eight inches long. The Usk was quite big and coloured but fishable in places.

Ever the optimist I hoped that the fish would be more cooperative than they were at Trallong the day before. Once again there was no shortage of insect life but virtually no sign of fish moving. My only fish, taken on a nymph from the Junction Pool at eight inches looked to be smaller than the one I saw in the mouth of a mink on the opposite bank lower down! I agree with the comment made by a previous angler regarding the barbed wire wound round the top of a firmly closed gate downstream of the farm - dangerous to life, limb and waders.
