Edw - Aberedw Beat
One of my favourite beats didn't disappoint. Not the best of weather with some biblical showers but a steady hatch of olives of all sizes and the odd mayfly. The Edw seems to be stuffed with wbt, it's not as tight as it looks and you're not constantly clambering in and out of the river. 19 wbt to hand, all on CDC Olives, Adams and Klinks, at least half 9" plus, and feisty hard fighting fish. Cracking day, cracking beat.
The only negative on an outstanding day was not being able to find "Aberedw" beat on the WUF website back at the hotel that evening. Please don't tell me it's being decommissioned.
WUF Note: A gate has been installed in the fence next to the parking area. We are currently trying to find alternative arrangements and hope to have the beat open again very soon.

There are definitely more interesting, better value and prettier beats for trout in the WUF scheme so I probably wouldn't return. The much vaunted walkway is in my view a decaying eyesore which does nothing for the Usk. Nothing much rising so nymphs accounted for two decent fish, both from the glide rather than the streamy water.

My first booking on this lovely stretch. Four or five fish showing at hut but dropping river did n't encourage them to chase a fly. A few chub to fly at bottom of beat. One fish came for fly just below surface but I think it was good trout.

River good, fish rising, none caught, fished at Aberfan foot bridge, it is difficult to get down to the river at this point and the amount of rubbish in the river is disturbing
