Fished from 11am - 3pm. A few March Brown around 11.30am and a thin scattering of large olives from noon until 3pm. Caught 9 trout, 7 of which on dry olive. 5 over a pound with heaviest 1lb 4oz.

The river was very low and clear. Few fish rising, I rose only one, about 4oz, on a para Adams. Weather was chilly, partly sunny, with one or two rain squalls - very little rain. I found it a little difficult to know how to get round the "no fishing" bit in the middle of the beat, eventually emerged through a derelict barn into a scrapyard where a very helpful person showed me how to get round on the East bank. The footbridge about 1 1/2 miles up the beat appears to have been washed away.
I found the booking system very effective, and your staff very helpful. Thank you for an enjoyable 2 days on Abbey Dore and here.

Two of us fished Glan-yr-Afon from about 12.45 to 18.00. Great to be back on this stunning stretch of the Usk, despite a very challenging breeze all afternoon and the odd hail shower! Connected with but lost three decent fish, all on dries - as per previous reports, the most effective flies were March Brown and Large Dark Olive. The one fish actually caught fell to the old faithful Partridge and Orange, fished through the tail of a riffle on the near side midway along the beat. Only had thigh waders and therefore couldn't reach some of the water on the far side that looked tempting. Fingers crossed for less wind next time!

Blustery, cold and sunny with low clear water.
Two rises seen during a quick morning session. One March brown seen hatching - can't really miss them.
Two trout and a good grayling on nymphs in the faster water - Wales looking beautiful in the sunshine.
Recent works to the access from the road to the beat have certainly opened up the previous narrow path - you can now drive a tank down it and its a bit raw. The beat is still one of my favourites and is otherwise unaffected.
Just a quick plea - Rubbish! I took away a large black sack full from the layby - and didn't make a lot of difference! Can we all please keep hold of our rubbish and pick up even one piece of someone elses. Pretty soon the whole area will be clear. It isn't enjoyable to start the morning parking in a waste strewn area and we can make such a difference so easily.

Bright conditions and water levels low & clear for time of year, suffice to be able to see the underwater contours of the river - revealing! Unfortunately the beat was as dead as a doornail as far as salmon fishing was concerned. Even the coarse fish appeared to be absent! Tried fly and spinning all to no avail on all pools bar The Cottage.
However, the bank maintenance is 100% better than last year, properly cut back vegetation and helpful steps down to the pools. If the pools could be named on the bankside - some are - to avoid confusion and revised/updated written descriptions on how to fish each of them in various conditions, that would again much ease new rods fresh to the beat.

River very low and clear. Fly fishing only - mainly using dry fly. Small grayling caught on dry fly.
Very few fish spotted - contrary to years ago when the river held a good stock of trout and grayling. We wondered whether the prescence of otters in the river is having a detrimental effect on fish stocks?
WUF Note: We would caution against assuming low stocks of fish if nothing is seen. This is quite often the case in low, clear water conditions, especially when nothing much is hatching.
