9 x grayling 14-17 inches, 1 x out of season trout 10 inches, trotting and Tenkara. I had to roam around a fair bit. Rain fell to the south and a good dose of snow on the Black Mountains, but Builth Wells area stayed dry and the Irfon continued to fall. Level today at 0.69 and dropping slowly, cold and clear. It should fish well for a bit while it stays dry.

River just fining down after flood, the pike were unresponsive apart from a follow and a lost fish (small) late in the day. RJ ledgered maggot catching a very healthy 1.5 lb trout and a couple of grayling, but no chub. SJ blanked. Many thanks to Terry for his directions for this beautiful water, we will be back!

I spent a couple of hours trotting for grayling in the morning before the wind got too strong. Briefly hooked two fish which were probably trout. River average height and clear.

5 x grayling 6-14 inches, 9 x out of season trout 8-14 inches, trotting. River very high today, even by recent standards (Llanstephan gauge out of sight after unexpected overnight rise of about a foot). Lately I'm continually underestimating the rise in levels caused by relatively light rain in central Wales. I suppose the ground is so saturated that it has no absorption capacity and the water goes to the river at once. I did manage to find a couple of slacks to fish although greedy post-spawning trout were mainly in evidence. Grayling came on to feed around dusk.

I knew that booking was going to be a gamble and on this occasion it did not pay off. The river was high but always the optimist I had a go and there were a few areas that looked promising but blanked. Despite this, it was good to get a rod out and brush up on some skills and the scenery was good. Hopefully better luck next time.

River rising again but clear and superb condition. Pike was the target species this morning and visiting WUF anglers C R and friend were quick to catch a superbly conditioned pike weighing 15lb 5 oz from Pauls Orchard beat 2. This fish is currently the top weight fish in the 'Whitney Court Pike Competition' sponsored by Sportfish. We know there are plenty bigger fish on the Estate, just needs some applied effort really. Good luck if you can beat this.
