Still very cold but water has dropped by about 10" since yesterday, a nice 12" Brown caught 100yds above the A40 bridge on a size 12 hares ear goldhead fished deep.
Very cold wading and a wayward hook in the thumb (ouch) forced an early finish at 3pm and the trek back to Oxford.
Thanks to the Wye & Usk and the organiser of the Oxford Ice Fishers - John Lewis, we look forward to returning in the Spring proper!

Another cold day for the Oxford Ice Fishers but we are a resilient bunch. Very good breakfast at the Dragon Inn, Crickhowell set us up nicely for a days fishing and the water was much clearer than the day before.
As the others found on Saturday the water level restricted access to the top 500yds of the beat and our skills were not able to winkle out any fish despite this we returned home happy if cold.

This beat is much better for access than Ashford House but despite that we didn't connect with any fish. Water level dropping but temperature only 6 deg C at best with a wind chill bringing it down further. Still we polished off the rest of the Pork Pie with some Fullers London Pride followed by cheese and biscuits.
Would like to return in the Summer.

Quite high water made large sections of the river hard to get to and wading was quite hairy in places. No hatches or surface action but caught a decent fish on a PTN, working the near bank. Great day regardless of conditions, thanks to WUF.

Very cold still with wind chill and fast high water. Middle of the day best and a few 10" plus Browns caught using single nymph on a sinking leader.

Beat:Ashford House
Fishing:Trout (River)

Fast cold water, little access on the lower 3/4 of the beat due to water levels so efforts concentrated on 500yds south of the bridge at the top.
Despite best efforts no fish were caught but Steve Willis' Pork Pie and Quails eggs at lunch were excellent and fortified us for the snow shower that followed.
Well we are the Oxford Ice Fishers.

Very cold conditions but perseverance and a sinking line got the fly to where the fish were sheltering from the fast stream. Good effort all round but no lunch so not as happy as those members at Ashford House.

Woke up at The Hundred House Inn to covering of snow. Air temp 1 degree. Frustrating couple of hours due to my ineptitude with flies up trees but enjoyed it nonetheless. As yesterday plenty of fast flowing water but no signs of fly life or fish life. One day I will catch a trout in one of the wild stream beats! But not today. Easier walking and easier casting than on Edw Hundred yesterday. An enjoyable couple of days holiday.

Fished the upper Taff again today. Fished weighted nymphs for a short period of time before my French leader snapped around a snag in fast water so fished klink and dink afterwards. Managed another dozen plus wbt ranging from 1/2lb up to 2lb.
