The river was up a fair bit but was ok to fish. We started at the lower part of the beat, with one barbel caught, 5lb. We moved downstream and had a 6lb barbel and a chub. Two barbel were lost and not bad for the condition of the river. My only grievance is a shooting party turned up in numbers they drove all over the grass (anglers get kicked off the beat for doing this) they started shooting and we had to stay by our vehicle until they had finished. Would visit again in better conditions.

Pretty tough day. River quite high and pouring with rain most the day and a high wind. Had a little barbel around 2lb early afternoon and a beautiful 9lb 8oz fish late afternoon/early evening. Both fish were on pellet. 2 bites, 2 fish.

The river had dropped about a foot, the current had slowed and had a nice colour. All fish taken on a swimfeeder with pellets as bait. Only fished until early afternoon as high winds were forecast. A very nice day thank you.

A tricky day, river well up & rocketing through, spells of heavy rain, showers & very strong winds throughout added to the fun ????
Only real option to fish was pretty tight to the near bank, 1 Barbel of near 8lbs & an eel around midday being the only rewards (to my partner in crime for the day) & caught towards the top end of the beat. Nothing (as anticipated) as the light started to fade but then it's angling & the fish often forget the rules. Still an enjoyable day & neither of us ended up in the river which was a bonus.

Area:Monnow
Beat:Chanstone Court
Fishing:Winter Grayling
No. of Anglers:1
Tough going. Still the Dore is very low even after the amount of rain over the past week. All the trout took size 20 midge and the grayling heavily weighted nymphs from only the deepest of pools. Two were at 15 inches the other three 6-9 inches. Several herons spotted and two of the grayling had been slashed by them. The grayling never really switched on today.

The river was well up and the flow pushing hard. Found a couple of swims on the inside of a bend and had two barbel on meat. The weather was mild and it's a very well kept beat. Thanks again, will return in the summer.

Area:Lower Wye
Beat:Wyebank
Fishing:Coarse
No. of Anglers:2
Wyebank is a glorious beat and it is the first time we have fished this stretch with the river very coloured and rising rapidly. The usual canoe traffic was replaced by high speed logs zooming past all day and the floating debris did not make matters easy.
Our lack of experience combined with the conditions resulted in us not doing very well...A powerful Barbel was lost in the strong current and only a small Dace was landed on a pleasant mild day.
Thanks to the WUF and we will return along with the Kingfishers when the river is lower.

The river was was very high with lots of trees and branches floating down after the high winds. Unable to hold bottom with a heavy feeder but did manage to find a slack close in and caught two chub and an eel on meat. A hard day but nice to be out. Thanks.
