Forgetting about the Hay Festival I was among a lot of canoes but managed to be pleasant. Good hatch of just about everything but little on the rise. My good humour with the holiday makers was rewarded by a huge slashing rise at my mayfly that resulted in my best brownie on a dry. Est. close to two pounds. More out the water than in. Phenomenal fight on a 4wt with a 3lb cast, in spite of my springers best attempts to 'help'. Returned with a flourish.

Found it difficult to access the gates on to the river as vegetation had taken hold. Despite this I had an enjoyable day using my 6ft6 fly rod. I caught 2 trout. Fishing was hindered by a nasty breeze on the water all day.

Fished 9 to 5...Plenty of fish to be seen but all were utterly focused on the clouds of tiny flies that were hatching all day. All my efforts were to no avail until well into the afternoon when seeing a solitary large sedge I gave up on the tiny imitations and chucked a no 12 silver sedge into the pool.....bang! first fish of the day....followed by 2 more to larger olives, all fish around 6-8"
Hard work on a shallow but beautiful stretch of the Edw.
Thanks again to all at WUF.

Difficult downstream breeze made presentation of dries and nymphs difficult. Plenty of different fly hatching including a few mayflies. Lots of missed takes without connecting. Also fish shedding hook quickly. I fished from mid day to 8:30pm. However, between 3 and 7 was dead with no movement. Not a lot rising but fish would come up to dry but were suspicious. All fish to hand were smallish the best perhaps 10oz. Lost one much better fish on a nymph. Still on the learning curve!

Tough day fishing with the water being low and clear. Saw several fish moving but managed to spook most of them.
