First time on this beat and following recent heavy overnight rain we were optimistic of finding a few fish. Started at 10:30am on the lower stretch but conditions were difficult with heavy leaf debris making presentation nigh on impossible. We moved to the upper section in the slower flowing areas and SB managed a few small roach and a chublet float fishing maggot, with a switch to pellet late afternoon failing to increase the bite ratio.
RB fished caster to far bank taking a few perch, 1 chub of 5 lb and 2 barbel at 7lb.
Will definitely return later in year when water levels are higher.
A stunning stretch, well done to WUF for enabling access to another exceptional looking beat.

River was in good condition slightly up after previous days rain. Overcast conditions seemed ideal but it fished very hard, couldnt get a bite on any pellets or boilies so tried maggots and had a barbel straight away. Had 2 Chub after this on maggots then nothing till light started to go then had 2 more barbel and lost 2 barbel so not a bad day at the end. Beautiful place to fish, the scenery at this time of year is stunning, love this river.

Fishing:Winter Grayling
No. of Anglers:3
Heavy rain and gusty winds in the early morning had brought down many leaves from the bank side trees resulting in huge rafts of leaves in parts of the beat which made them unfishable as the flies could not penetrate into the water.
Two good sized trout were seen on arrival and a salmon jumped at the top end late in the afternoon but we did not succeed in catching any grayling. No fish rising during our visit, but we all had a very enjoyable day.

The mild weather gave us high hopes but the fish were somewhat finnicky. The grayling didn't seem to be shoaled up and the trout didn't recognise that their season had finished. Sporadic rises didn't give much confidence to dry fly tactics and we mainly stuck to the duo. That said the klink did get the odd inspection and accounted for a fish. All the fish were taken from typical grayling water but we never felt we were going to connect with any reasonable sized specimens. The best grayling was probably just over the pound and the trout were mainly about 3/4lb with the odd smaller fish thrown in.

Weather perfect and really looking forward to a new beat today. Unfortunately I had some real difficulty in finding where I was meant to fish, Walked around but I could not locate the named pools and the path seemed to just come to an end. I went back near the parking area and had a go next to the field, Had a few Salmon Parr and lost a good out of season trout that grabbed my small gold head. After 2 hours the felt sole parted company with my boot so that was that.

Poor day, river rising and coloured due to persistent rain overnight and early morning so deep nymphing the order of the day unfortunately without much luck. Only one small out of season brown trout 8 ins taken, few fish missed, still always good to be on the river on such a beautiful beat. Access to river on top beat much easier if you cross footbridge at car park and walk down the lane to the right bank, good directions on beat map.

Fished swims at top and bottom of beat, no bites in the morning, a few fish mid afternoon and most in the last hour of daylight. Fish caught on both pellets and maggots. Very surprised river still very low and clear so pleased with catch.

Great time again on this beat. Fished using pellet and feeder method. It was very mild after some rain in the morning. Craig was first to get a bite unfortunately the line parted on a rock, then Paul (Dad) landed a beauty at 10lbs 7oz.
Not to be outdone Craig (son) landed one of the identical weight 10lbs 7oz. Could even have been the same fish?
Paul landed another beauty this time it was 10lbs 14oz.
All the barbel were very fat and had been feeding hard. So 6 barbel 3 each and pb's for both of them a right result.
Thanks to Don for a great season yet again.

Another great day and good looking conditions but a real struggle to raise a bite in the heavy amount of leaves in the river. Lovely stretch of river as usual. Otter was seen early in the day out in the river harassing fish I guess, hope the barbel will survive this winter! Another great day out on the wye. Thanks wuf.
