Having arrived at the beat to find near perfect conditions expectations that this would be "The" day were high. With 12 Barbel landed one would think that was indeed the case,
however, with 11 of them and the Chub falling to one rod it was a tough day for the other two!! That said still a joy to be on the river, and well done Big Nige. Best fish
8lb. 12oz.

Given up sitting it out for the big one, on the stick, maggots, light feed. Nice day again. Brown trout 2lbs and bite size, chub both around 4.5lbs, again grinding out fish as we can due to low water and warm bright days. Lots of salmon seen holding up again.

Really nice days fishing on a superb stretch of river, during which my father caught his first Barbel at the age of 72. River had a bit of colour in it after the recent rain and the fish fed throughout the day. Barbel to 8.5lb and Chub to 4lb+ on groundbait and pellet feeder and also had a few decent Chub and a couple of lively Brownies on stick float and maggot, which was good fun wading mid-river. Will definitely try and fish again next year.

Disappointing day due to heavy rain overnight and early morning, making access to swims easy for a mountain goat but very slippery for old boy with a hip like mine.
Managed to set up in a swim opposite the downstream end of the island but a combination of leaves, abundant weed, more rain, vertigo and no bites made me give up after 3 hours.
A 300 mile round trip for nothing.

Floating weed meant that the fishing was difficult but after a chat with Don the River Keeper who gave us very helpful advice our fortunes changed. Phil caught a lovely Barbel of 9lb and I had one of 5lb. The fish were taken just before sunset on pellet and we didn't have a bite between us before that.
The river looked lovely in the Autumn sun and it's always a pleasure to fish there.

Fishing:Winter Grayling

3 x grayling 10-14 inches, 9 x out of season trout 7-15 inches, Red Tag and Grey Duster. A downstream gale, the river very slowly rising a couple of inches after overnight rain. The trout were much more prepared to rise than the grayling today. And suddenly we have salmon moving all over the beat. They must know the season is over!

Heavy rain ceased as we arrived at 9am and weather conditions were encouraging being warm and overcast. The river was seriously low and my fellow angler commented it seemed almost dead. Dave lost a barbel at 11am on pellet and feeder which made us think they were on the feed. We were wrong - no more action till 4pm when I landed a barbel of around 6 pounds on light legered meat. We fished till dark with no further fish. A lovely beat and thanks to Dave for introducing me to it.
