Nice warm day, sunny start around 10am. Started bottom on the swim, road side trotting bronze maggot. Waded out behind tree, water surprisingly strong! Loose fed 10 or so maggots every run down. After one and a half hours and 4 lots of hook links gone for nowt, I put the straight lead down the end of the faster water and lost a further 3 rigs. Time to move. Over the bridge, down in front of the two trees, feeder on stuck with the maggots to use them up. Whoopy! 2lbs chub first chuck, (poor fish had been got at by a cormorant or some other predator) cloud cover happened so anticipation heightened.....this is when I started encountering willow suckers and small branches continuously pushing through my swim. This cost me 4 sets of feeders!! Debris pulling the line under rocks or into bigger snags(?) etc. Getting low on kit, I moved back to the bridge to try to avoid the debris - nope... 3 more losses of end kit did it for me and off home by 4pm to be honest not one of my better days, looked fine but hard to understand where any fish would hold in that sort of flow and constant debris?

Warm and sunny start, so decided to try dry fly for one last time. Landed 3 grayling, 2 at 8" and one at 12", but missed loads, either completely or hook and instant release! On a grey duster. Did not solve the problem before thick cloud and a cold downstream wind put the fish down. Carried on but only caught one trout - on a pink sparkly shrimp in a grayling type glide! Instructed him on proper trout behaviour before putting him back...

Only managed to fish 3 hrs in the afternoon but blanked on a swim at approx midway on the beat. Looked perfect with a very evident crease, but couldn't buy a bite on pellets and PVA. Never mind, still enjoyed myself and very satisfied with the catch previous day.

First time on this beat. It looked great, access to the river is good and the water conditions were perfect. Two rods fished my friend for Barbel and myself for silver fish. All fish that were caught were caught on maggot. A little disappointing that we didn't catch more fish. However, this three mile beat needs exploring and finding out where the best pools are. Met Terry the Bailiff, who was very helpful and suggested areas for our next visit.

One of the warmest Octobers days fishing I've experienced. Still 2 fine barbel one of 9lbs and another at 10lbs 1oz plus a good chub of 4lbs 6oz. Not the busiest of days but the fish were in pristine condition and very fat.
