Had one Barbel about 8lb and 5 small Barbel of around 12oz. River was fining down after previous day and was fishable all day unlike previous day when weed and branches coming downstream meant I couldn't fish from around 5pm. Also caught 10 dace trotting maggot.

River a foot above summer low and well coloured though clearing, water temp 12 degrees. Very pleasant day but no sign of salmon. Spinning not allowed on this fishery below 2ft (nor wading in coloured water!), or I would have been very tempted to try a small spinner in these conditions. Plenty of interest in my various doubles from out-of-season trout. Note of caution - a gigantic trunk road development scheme has started between Abergavenny and Merthyr and once you hit the A465 it's very difficult to find your way across towards Crickhowell (I went 20 miles out of my way)- suggest anglers coming from the south and east go through Abergavenny and travel via A40.

No fish. Bright sun possibly didn't help chances. Top pools inaccessible due to brambles and Himalayan Balsam. Lower pools excellent though. Thanks WUF.

Day 1 of 2 on a new beat for me, and what a lovely place it is! Well kept and the campsite manager is a really nice guy. Grayling to 16" and trout to 12" most fish on nymphs but had a few on small dries.

Fished lower fields pm. Lovely afternoon with river slightly coloured and falling after previous day's rain. Bank newly fenced with some good access points - thanks. 1 tiny parr and 4 well-conditioned trout of about 9 inches on nymphs. I'm catching more parr than ever - all over - good sign! Thanks to W & U and owners for this lovely stretch. Wish there was a more direct way we could show our appreciation.................... I attended the November excursion, last year, with my wife to prove I really do go fishing on my escape days! Met some landowners there and wish there could be more of this. How about a W & U Association with other 'socials'?
