Last attempt at a salmon for this season. Mainly fished the lower end of the beat. Conditions looked good and several salmon showed. Alas another blank. Roll on next season.

Had two smallish pike. Didn't bother to weigh but both less than 10lb. Missed a strike from a bigger fish.

River running very fast and coloured. Caught 2 barbel and 6 chub, the conditions... weather was not ideal, i.e. raining on and off and windy, but we both still enjoyed the day.

Took a gamble with the river being high but well worth the effort. If I didn't know the beat as well as I do, I'd never have got in the river. But after carefully positioning myself on the shelf, I fished the shallow water under the trees as the gutter was unfishable. Proved the right move with plenty of fish were there avoiding the fast flow. Took some lovely Grayling to 16 inches and a number of trout similar size who clearly did not know what the date was! Testing, but enjoyable days fishing.

River was still high but pretty clear. Worked hard to little avail. Very strong wind and falling barometer. Beautiful water, we'll definitely be back.

Beautiful stretch, challenging water conditions with the river high and coloured, difficult to present bait effectively as a result. Lost a large fish in the stretch before the wooded section early on, then settled into the pump pool for the afternoon. We took 5 barbel in total which we were pleased with given the water conditions. Largest was about 7lb. Hooked something which took off like a rocket and bent my hook out. Can only imagine it was the elusive double.

The river was high and coloured and full of leaves from the high blustery wind which made for challenging fishing. My favourite spot was charging through so fast that a float was out of sight in seconds and a ledger was dragged round by leaves. I moved towards the bottom of the meadow where there was some slacker water and found some dace willing to feed. Unfortunately they were very small but I persevered in the hope that larger fish would turn up. I caught about 25 of these and a dozen Grayling, plus 1 acrobatic Trout. This may seem impressive but sadly the largest fish of the day would have failed to make 8ozs. As the water level fell by a few inches during the day, I had one more go in the faster water but only added one more small Grayling. Not too much wildlife about either but one Salmon leaped fully 4 feet clear of the water. I suspect that the larger fish remain in the main flow despite the extra speed, but presenting a bait to them was difficult. In hindsight I think a much heavier more visible float may have had better results. Something to try next time.
