A lovely day for fishing, again with little wind, especially from midday onwards, and not too sunny for much of the time. Ended up fishing a twelve hour shift from 8 a.m. Little fly in the morning apart from a few small olives/ PWs and hardly any rising fish. Fished duo and had a couple of grayling on a small flashback PTN but most fish came to the HE emerger on the dropper and, by 1 p.m., I had caught about a dozen fish. Nothing on a brace of nymphs under an indicator. Then a few fish actually started rising and eventually sedges and midge began to appear as well, on and off throughout the afternoon, and I took more fish on the emerger and an Elk Hair grizzle caddis, and by 5 p.m. had taken about 25 grayling and six trout. Then one of those wonderful evenings started, and just went on and on, as fish started sipping everywhere and I caught fish after fish on size 18-14 HE emergers. On the day most grayling were 8-12", but a number of 13-14" were also caught, many after barely perceptible rises. However, the best "lady" of the day was a non-rising 16" beauty. Trout were mainly 8-10" fish, with a couple of 12-13". Some fish were still rising when I decided to head back home. An amazing day and an even more amazing evening! Should probably have also tried something small and black for the smutting fish, but there was no need!

Waste of 20 quid. Boat traffic constant from 10 a.m till 7pm totally destroying fishing. Capsized boats, people swimming in your swim, stopping for lunch all down the swim all day. Told a few I had payed to fish, they moved and within 2 minutes the next few canoes were moored up. The arrogance of a few ruins it for so many. A few were more river wise paddling fast to pass through but mostly a bunch of arrogant idiots who quite honestly could not give a hoot.. and at their age, oh dear.. I have had this on other beats, people throwing stones in your swim and had them hitting the banks you are sat on. Mindless idiots.
WUF Note: July and August is the peak time for canoe traffic on the navigable sections of the Wye. Although we appreciate it is not always convenient, the advice to anglers is to concentrate fishing effort early morning and late evening at this time of year. Canoe traffic is less then and the fish are often more active.

Arrived at this lovely well managed stretch at about 10am and fished through till 6 pm on a hot day. The advice on entering the fishery was taken and the drive round the field was not too bad and much much preferable to a walk from the entrance. Parked at the salmon hut and decided to fish in the vicinity after first walking the stretch to identify the obvious luggsmouth hot spot at the downstream end.
I fished wagglers and pellet in the run opposite the trees upstream of the hut but only had a few chub lets. My friend on the feeder had 1 chub let after 2 hours. I decided to move upstream to a chubby looking spot and immediately had action with chub to 4lb on meat. Would have caught more on the float but wind wrong on the day for loose feeding even with a powerful catapult. Ended up with 9 chub and lost a good barbel in the near side weed when the hook pulled.
My friend went downstream and immediately was into barbel, ending up with 5 to 6lb and a bonus chub all on 8mm pellet with 4mm and hemp through the feeder.
Quite a lot of water for 2 anglers and very well maintained. Easy to walk along the comfortable banks on the entire stretch. Saw lots of salmon crashing about especially right on the mouth of the Lugg.
