Another pleasant day on the Wye with fish caught on and off throughout the afternoon. The walk is not for the faint hearted though!

I struggled for a bite all day and made the mistake of not changing swims as I think the problem in my swim was a large pike. Each time I cast the feeder out small fish started feeding on the groundbait before being ambushed by the pike which I did see a few times taking the fish off the surface. That's the reason for me still kicking myself for not moving. I will say that I still thought the stretch looked really good and I enjoyed my day there, just a shame that I live some distance from the Wye as I would definatley be back righting my wrongs!

Weather good, levels good and we fished the fly hard all day but no takes. Several fish seen but suspect they were residents. Moved a couple out of the Vanstone pool with a spinner but still could not get a take.

Few salmon or sea trout in the river - saw one in the Pipe Pool. One of us had something substantial on but lost it. Caught a few trout, mostly small.

Access was good in the mid section of the beat, few fish rising couple of takes on a dry but due to poor accuracy, missed!

Lovely stretch of river that I was very much looking forward to visiting!
Unfortunately torrential rain for 3 days previous and then blazing hot sunshine contributed to a terrible day!
Didn't see a sign of a fish anywhere. Stayed from 12 midday till it got dark. Nevermind.

Stream looked a bit low but still a few deep pools where a couple of decent sized trout were rising to small duns.
Nothing caught, but a very nice beat none-the-less.
Was advised to park just inside the gateway to the farm on the grass.

Very well kept beat by colin who does a great job. Lots of available swims to fish in comfort We fished various swims to catch a few chub early on to 4lb then it slowed.
Colin came and had a chat and put us on the barbel (thanks colin)
KW caught 5 barbel from 7 to 8lb and 7 chub to 4lb on various methods and baits. GW caught 10 chub but could not bag a barbel even though he did try very hard
The river was up a few inches and had a little bit of colour but still very low. I am sure we will be back to target those barbel again. Thanks WUF, great parking and good instructions.

River looked amazing, bit of colour but not chocolate but ultimately failed to live up to what was expected.
5 barbel and a chub are not to be sniffed at of course and it was enjoyable fishing.
However, it is a long walk from the car to the first swim. And despite being a 20 year Wye veteran, fishable areas were at a premium. I loved it, need to see the banks in winter when they aren't covered in undergrowth to get a better idea of the areas that are fishable.
If you don't like walking or creating a swim this isn't for you. If I had a car this is the only stretch I'd fish purely because it's such hard work!
