4 good Barbel and 4 good chub. All the pitches very over grown and dangerous when fishing on your own, be careful!!!!! I really do think that for the money we are paying, which is expensive for coarse fishing, the pitches should be cleared.

Arrived at 5.30 a.m. after very early start. Was dismayed to find the river at 0.55m on the gauge after 0.72 m the day before. Shame on the W.W.A. for pumping such an obscene volume of water from the river. Is this allowed? River had a beautiful tint but flow too slow to work a fly below the bridge.
Hooked a salmon on Rock pool at 7.30 a.m. on a Reverend Mole, (See letter by Jean Williams Sept T+S for info on pattern) but it came off two minutes later after a couple of good runs.
An hour later had a good take on upper Rock but it didn't stick. Just two 1/2 lb brownies safely returned. Retired defeated to fish on lower river later in the evening.

This was both, mine and my Dad's first time on the Wye. Also our first crack at fishing a river of this size and pace. The setting is absolutely stunning, one the few places nice enough that I wouldn't mind blanking. This said, the river was fast flowing and coloured and proved a bit tricky for Wye beginners like us to start with. We both set up in swims around mid way down the stretch, neither proved successful in the morning. I moved further upstream around mid afternoon. Fished a swim for around an hour, that produced a 7lb 9oz barbel on my third cast. That came to 12 mm halibut pellet, fished under a heavy feeder. My Dad sat it out in his swim and early evening took a 4 1/2lb chub and eel around 2lb, both to luncheon meat. I moved back to original swim and had a good run from a barbel, before the hook pulled. Unfortunately we couldn't fish as late as we would have liked and that was the last action. We definitely intend to return as soon as possible and make sure we're able to fish later into the evening. This a stunning venue and well chuffed to back my first Wye barbel.

Plenty of water, still slightly coloured, sadly a strong cold northerly downstream wind. Saw just 2 small rises. Still enjoyable, one slight issue... access needs to be improved. The field (right looking down) downstream of the bridge has an electric fence to within a few feet of the water, I slipped and got a right belt of electricity....if the fence had been placed just a few feet into the field one could walk safely on level ground. Nonetheless, enjoyable. Spider patterns effective in the big water.

Interesting day with the river up and heavily coloured. Occasional showers were forecast but that didn't do them justice! Then the weather cleared and it was a beautiful evening to finish with some nice fish.
