Water levels low and clear. Numerous takes to Adams, cdc emerger and gold head hares ear nymph, but none brought to hand. Beautiful sunny day which made spotting easy but they could also see me.

The river was very low and the weather was hot and sunny with a nasty downstream wind, difficult conditions! We didn't start until the early afternoon and the two fish we managed were both on nymphs. A few fish started rising in the late evening but I couldn't work out what they were on even though I went through my whole fly box. It is a lovely beat but I would make one comment. There are a lot of chopped branches lying around on the right bank of the pool on a bend about 100 yards up from where you park your car. The bank there is high anyway and for a left hander like myself it made it very difficult to cast. In fact there were quite a lot of chopped and abandoned branches along the banks which could do with being disposed of.

Weather was better than forecasted, but water levels were very low. All fish taken on heavy nymphs fished in the deeper, faster water as expected. Two nice trout to 16" remainder between 6" and 10". A lot of nice fish seen in the shallower slow water, but they were easily spooked. Not many fish rising to the abundance of caddis hatching throughout the day. Good day on a lovely beat.

This was our first time on LCB and it really is a stunning (and peaceful) beat. The fishing wasn't so much about how many we caught though but about how many we lost unfortunately! The fish here are very wise and constantly managed to offload the hook into the streamer weed... we must have lost well over 10 fish (mostly barbel) during the course of the day. Even wading out and trying to lessen the angle to the fish didn't even help. It was nice to catch a couple of fish on the float though even if I lost way more than I caught!
However, as with the previous day, this was more of a social trip so the amount being caught wasn't really an issue, it was just glorious to be in such wonderful surroundings catching the odd fish here and there.
Will definitely be back again.
Note to WUF - the swims on the top half of the beat could really do with some clearing.
2 Barbel, 2 Chub
