Used toby spinner for Salmon from about 11.30am to 5pm when it started to drizzle. Water high and muddy - we did not try wading. Nothing not even a nibble!!!

The river was higher than when I fished it for the first time last year but fairly clear and not unfishable.
I worked down stream with a small green gold head without success. Late afternoon I came back upstream, took a small trout on black nymph. Met the owner of the beat who kindly suggested I try another pool upstream and advised on which of my dries I should try.
Took two small trout in quick succession before rain stopped play.
Conclusion: I have a lot to learn so must be content with only catching the small naïve fish before I can graduate to finding and deceiving the bigger ones!
Even without catching, this beat is just a wonderful place to spend a day and enjoy the solitude.

Taken on Black and Brown Nymph. River was running fast but manageable. Stayed at The Manor in Crickhowell - very good value.

River was high which made wading quite difficult for 3 old guys, so we could not cover all the water. Caught one small wild brownie. Beautiful peaceful beat and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. Thank you again to Alyson and the Wye and Usk Foundation.

When I arrived the water was very coloured due to the overnight rain, however undeterred I made my way to the bottom of the beat at 10:00am. Found a very narrow but clear stretch and second cast was into my first fish on a dark nymph. Worked my way up the beat. About halfway and about 12:30 I found a calm stretch of water with fish rising to sedges and Mayfly. Put on a dry sedge and caught a further 5 fish. Moved to the top of the beat and continued with the dry fly and landed a further 4. All in all a challenging but enjoyable day, it was spoilt by two gentleman feeding the river with maggots at the top of the beat!! This was subsequently reported. The stretch could do with some clearance though as there is lots of debris in the river

4 x trout 9-15 inches. An early evening session, short-lining a team of three wet flies on the windward shore. The odd lake olive to be seen on the surface. A greased up Kate Maclaren on the top dropper provoked most interest with a wet Greenwells and Harry Tom fished lower down. I had planned to fish till dusk, but unfortunately the wind dropped to a flat calm around 7.30, the fish moved out of range - and the biting midges moved in. Two WUF anglers, fellow refugees from flooded rivers, arrived later and hopefully found some success before dark.
