Heavy rain over previous days had coloured the water, however it improved throughout the day. Caught one very small (5") brown trout on a wet Greenwells Glory. Beat itself was very pretty but found that a lot of it couldn't actually be fished due to steep banks and undergrowth. Booking office were very helpful. I was on holiday so couldn't print out the details to leave on windscreen as required, so they contacted the owners of the beat to let them know. Great system for booking fishing - I hope I will be back in the area in the future to use it again.

Three 6" trout caught on dries. I should have landed more as there were numerous fish rising. River level good with plenty of slower deeper runs.

Nothing rising but managed to connect with a few fish on the nymph. In the confluence pool of the Monnow and Escley a grayling around 16" took in the tail of the pool. It was egg laden so we treated her very carefully and slipped her back. Otherwise the fish in great condition. Lovely beat this, wish it was longer or bolted onto part of the old Upper Longtown beat.

A lovely days fishing back on the Usk at Glan Usk Estate.
Not much movement throughout the whole day. The odd fish rising but they could not be tempted by either a wet or dry. Small March Brown hatch started at lunchtime but no increase in activity.
3 small brown trout were caught, all under 1/2lb so all returned safe and sound.
I certainly will return later in the year to try once again.

First visit, and surprised by the varied character of the water with plenty of inviting spots. One small BT to a gb hares ear, which frankly was a bit crass, as something more subtle was called for, but couldn't be bothered to change when there was so much to explore and enjoy! A short rod is preferable, not so much for casting but for raising and retrieving.
