Very few takes on a very bright, sunny, windy day. Just 3 small trout taken on dry flies, track ok if using a 4x4 vehicle.

Fished the Boys Rocks section from 7am till 11am, then from 4pm till 8pm. 7 barbel and 3 chub in the morning and 8 barbel and 1 chub in the afternoon. Lovely days fishing and a great backdrop at the top end. It is rocky up there and tackle should be inspected for wear.

Second day on the stretch, but due to packing up and travel, I only managed to fish 10:00 to 15:30. Clear blue skies, so decided to leave umbrella and coat behind (mistake). I found a bush to shelter from the rain, which proved a useful spot. Caught 10 barbel, all but two bites were more like chub taps than barbel pulls, so found it best not to ignore them. One small one at around 2lb, one at 4lb and the rest between 6lb and 7lb 10oz.
Never expected to do so well during the middle of the day, so was absolutely delighted.
I found that I needed to check both the hook length and line, up to about 8ft above the lead, after every fish. The rocks and weed were making a real mess of 10lb Insight GR60 mono.

My son and I had a wonderful two days at Courtfield.
River low and slow, sun blazing and the fishing was best from 5pm onwards.
Never fished this beat before, so it took us a while to find the right swim & tactics. But when we did we had 6 barbel ranging from 6 - 8lbs, plus a chub and an eel. We also lost several fish and missed numerous bites. To cap it off, my son caught his first ever barbel and it went 8lb 6oz. He was well chuffed. We'll be back.

River rather low but otherwise conditions good. Good rise in some stretches of the river at various times. Mostly small fish caught on nymphs but had 3 or 4 on dry fly including best fish of 10-12 inches on Grey Duster.

It was my first time on a river. Such a contrast from lakes. Whitney is a stunning location, excellent help from Terry. Hope to return soon.
