Light rain for most of the day and quite cold. No sign of any fish rising so concentrated on the nymph. 2 trout of about 1/2 pound taken both on Pheasant Tail nymph. First taken at Church Turn and the second at Campwll. Both caught between 2pm - 4pm. No fish taken.

Two small trout caught and returned. Ambitious as they were on a 12'6" salmon rod on stoats tail. Water low.
I am impressed with the Foundations web setup. It works very well - thank you.

One trout of 22 inches on an olive emerger. The water was very low and clear and I only spotted one other rising fish. Access to the lower beat is tricky and the wading is not for the faint hearted. The upper beat is much more civilised but would fish better after a good flood.

I made the mistake of booking a days fishing without taking time to familiarise myself with the river and therefore did not get the most of the day.
With so much river to choose from, I did not know where to start and finding where to start was the real problem. There seemed to be only 3-4 places where you could access the river and I failed to find a spot where I felt able to "set off from". I realise this is my own fault and would welcome suggestions from anglers more used to this beat.
The bits of water I did see were clear, although sadly lots of litter and abandoned bikes etc as previously mentioned.
Some small fish seemed to be feeding happily in the sunny conditions, but this was on the edge of a trading estate, so I gave that spot a miss.
For the price and with the knowledge, this could represent some great value fun fishing.

Once again the Usk trout tested us - and mostly won! When we set out from Churchdown it was a soft day - gentle overcast, no breeze - but the weather fluctuated throughout the day between warm sunshine and cold breeze during cloudy interludes. Not a good recipe for dry fly fishing. This is a lovely beat with lots of easily accessed water and there were sporadic hatches in the faster streamy stretches - LDOs, medium olives and brook duns - and occasionally the fish would rise. But persuading them to take an artificial was another matter! However within 30 mins of our starting J hooked a cracking fish on a para ginger quill - took at least 5 mins and several heart stopping moments to bring to hand - 20inches +, must have been at least a 2lber. (Separate email with picture). However the next fish risen wasn't until 3 in the afternoon - and then 4 fish took in 5 minutes, all lost or missed! Finally just to add ignomy a further fish was hooked which I suspect was of a similar stamp to the morning beauty - only on for a few seconds, but stripped line off reel in that time. Final score Fish 5 -Bullocks 1!

Arrived with river showing 0.72m on gauge, slight tint and falling slowly - perfect. Fished very hard with the 15 footer for almost 6 hrs with no sign of salmon. A lovely day for casting exercise though.
Six trout 1/4lb up to 1 1/2lb took exception to my Golden Killer. All were safely returned bar one little bleeder.
On a more concerning note, the fly hatch was very poor and only saw two rises all day. Has the unprecedented winter flooding decimated the insect population? It's beginning to look that way.

We arrived about 11.30am and fished with nymph PTN size 16 and 18 gold head a couple of rises taking terrestrials no hatch. Lovely brook, caught 2 trout and lost about 4. Finished at 4.30pm and went to Abbey Dore for the evening hoping for a rise. Good weather warm with little wind.
