Glorious day to be on the river. First time on this beat and I'll confess I was disappointed. While there were a few accessible runs and riffles, in general the access down to the river was very poor. While this is mentioned in the beat description, it is not adequately described. I grew up fishing the Monnow further upstream so am familiar with the river and type of fishing. Many sections here are slow and canal-like. The stile at the first hedge upstream from parking is also in very poor repair. If I was a coarse fisherman, I'd be happier with this beat. No surface activity and only a light hatch. The Skenfrith beat upstream is much better.

Fished the Taff today. Plenty of ldo's and brook dunns on the water to feed on so fished a quilled emerger. Managed to catch fish up to 2 1/2lb.

Couple of hours fishing and 3 trout the result, including my first wbt on a dry fly. Really like this beat although it is a little spoilt by the copious amounts of rubbish throughout....you could almost think you were fishing an urban beat.

2 delightful clients had their first day fly fishing. The weather was kind and the fish were showing. The 2 young people were quick learners and took to casting. I have every confidence that they will become competent anglers and add to the body of fishers that enjoy the Wye, its fish, wildlife and outstanding beauty.

Water condition good, clean and clear. Very little insect activity between 10am and 3 pm. No fish rising. Enjoyable day but uneventful in terms of catch.

Perfect level (0.53 on Ross gauge). Cool breeze and overcast day with some sunny intervals.
Started by fishing the fly down Wyebank but only joy was a perfectly marked brownie of just under a pound. Moved up to Courtfield and fished the fly through the willow run. Had a savage take which actually resulted in a 4lb chub.
The canoe traffic was endless between 10am and 4pm but in fairness the majority were well mannered and didn't pose any problems.
Moved upstream and put a spinner through the woods and Legg meadow but no takes. Early evening moved back down to the boat pool and within the first few casts I was into a very good fish (took just over half way across and just below the large flat stone from where I was casting. Despite this area holding a lot of pike I knew this was a salmon judging by the long runs where I just had to let the fish take line. Final result was a 24lb Wye springer.

1 Salmon, 1 Trout, 1 Chub
