Fished for four hours today on a new beat for me. River was in good nick but fishing conditions were poor ver windy, sun, rain and hail all in one day! I got five trout all between eight and nine inches on spiders and nymphs. A few olives were hatching but I did not see a fish rise - not surprising for the day it was. Nice beat good for a few hours fishing. I'm sure it will fish better after a spell of settled weather.

3 nice fish, 2 at 14", 1 at 17" fishing weighted spiders across the streamy runs - well worth the drive! The "smaller" fish were fairly lean. I caught them between 11am and 1. There was a hatch of olives which started at about 1, after which I caught nothing! No surface activity and no march browns. River was in good order but there was a gusty downstream wind most of the day. Wading staff and polaroids (to see the bottom) were important to me.

Lovely beat, probably better with a foot or so less water. Small hatches of March Browns at 2pm and 4pm when the sun shone though no fish showing on the surface at all.

The three of our party enjoyed the beat though cold conditions prevented much success on the more exposed sections. All fish caught on the bottom section by J4F.

First visit to Penpont and it's a really nice part of the Usk to fish. Weather was against us but Chris caught one WBT. I only saw one fish rise all day and was about to have a few casts to see if I could catch it ..... 5 canoeists /kayaks came downstream...that was the end of that.
WUF Note: Canoeists are not permitted on the upper Usk (except Brecon prom) between 3rd March and 17th October unless water heights are over the red line at the Brecon gauge (full details here). If you come across any paddlers during this time please inform them of the arrangements and make a note of where they are from (if they are in an organised group) and report it to WUF.

Great location, but I think a little early in the season. Also, due to the recent heavy rain the water was a little fast and brown. Covered the section from top to bottom, nothing caught, and nothing seen. Will try again in a month if we have some better weather.

Fished from iron steps down through the Willow Run with fly and spinner. Nothing caught or seen. Fished the top part of Wyebank plus bottom pool in the afternoon but still no joy. Slight colour to water and cold upstream wind. Still an enjoyable day though.

Fished afternoon only, above bridge. 4 seasons in a day, wind, rain, hail and glimpses of sunshine between the squalls. Water slightly coloured. A few olives seen coming off with the odd rise to the naturals, but was short lived. Fished NZ style, 3 wild browns caught on nymph. Largest circa 12" (very nice fish) and others 8" or so.
Lots of woody debris following recent flooding etc. Bridge needs clearing.

Lots of LDO's and March Browns/Brook Dunns coming off the water this morning despite the snow flurry with plenty of fish sipping at the water to feed on them in the long pools and in fast water too. Managed to catch fish on the dry as well as nymphs from 1/2lb up to 2lb.

First trip of the season and it was nice way to start; 5 cracking little brown trout 6-8 inches on black magic nymph fished New Zealand style. Great day despite the wind, rain and hail! Nice little river, though it could do with some clearance work; lots of rubbish and debris along the stretch which spoils the beat somewhat.
