Both Anglers used Halibut pellet on a hair rig. River very high, chocolate in colour but dropping around 1' over the two days. Friday 28th, 1 Barbel caught around 5:30pm about 4 pounds in weight. Chub of about 5lb caught 10 minutes later.
Both fish extremely healthy with no marks or signs of being caught before. 1 Barbel caught around 10:30am on Saturday 1st March, fish weighed around 6lb, caught on the same method. Weather wise Friday a.m was rainy but cleared later.
Saturday 1st March began with a hard frost but then produced the most stunning Sunny and at times warm day. We were given some great advice from Adam Fisher who joined us for over an hour on Saturday morning. He was recommended to us by the Wye & Usk Foundation so thank you. Thanks also to local Tim Gaunt for pulling us off the parking mound at How Caple as our van had got stuck and we had been struggling to get it off for an hour or more when he stopped to help. We stayed once again with Carol at The Old Mill in Hoarwithy, for us
there is quite simply nowhere better.

6 trout each, mainly caught on a silver Mepps. Had a few with a worm on a bubble float. Also caught a nice little brownie which was put back, great day, great weather.

A very cold and crisp morning giving way to a very warm and pleasant early afternoon, the river level about 6 feet above normal and still flowing quite fast.
The level did drop a few inches during the day but all the usual tactics, baits and sneaking about didn't pay off and yielded no fish.

Not the best of days from a catching point of view but still well worth being there. We had a fantastic welcome from Terry including a great cup of tea and up to date info. We finished the day with just two 4lb chub that fell to one of our rods, a lovely venue and we'll definitely be back

Cage feeder was the main tactic and baits included pellet, boilies, bread etc. The river was well up and heavy rain the night before didn't help.
A nice section though. Would definitely consider when conditions are more favorable.

River predictably up and coloured after over night rain but still within its banks. Drop in temperature meant that fishing was slow with just the one barbel - a fish of 8.15 taken at around 2.30.
