Very cold hard day with temperatures according to my thermometer on my zinger not getting above 3 degrees all day. Caught 3 small grayling on weighted nymphs. I have fished this beat before in the warmer months and it is a beautiful stretch with some great fishing to be had in the right conditions. With the water running slightly high the deep pools in this beat might just have provided the grayling to much of a good hiding place. My weighted nymphs just weren't heavy enough to get down to where the fish probably were. Wading upstream isn't really an option on this beat either because of the size and depths of the pools. Overall lovely to be back fishing on a stunning stretch of the Wye. Will be back for my next holiday in May!

6 Grayling caught using Czech and New Zealand nymphing. 2 around 16" and the rest in the 10-12" range. 2 fish lost from the hook and lots of missed takes. One fish was taken on a pheasant tail nymph all the rest to shrimp patterns. The river was a bit coloured but otherwise perfect.

Drew a blank ! River up and using through. After Pike but that's how it goes sometimes.
Please be wary of the steep banks. We could do with some proper swims being cut into the WUF stretches as a lot the fishing this time of year is dangerous on a lot of the stretches with the bank access just too steep.

Water was very high and fast, snow on the ground and a spoiling wind. Worked hard to locate fish to no avail.

Took a risk on the river level, which was high and coming through fast, not overly coloured but difficult fishing all the same. Tried hard to find the shoaled up grayling with limited success. Only took 2 fish around the 8-10 mark on deep fished nymphs.

A hard day from start to finish. River 3-4 feet up coupled with a STRONG downstream wind meant despite fishing alot of swims trying to find the fish .... 2 blanks for us. I didn't come close to catching, but my friend Paul lost a fish from some pacey water behind a rock. Looking forward to our next trip where hopefully we can catch a few.

17 x grayling 9-16 inches, 5 x out of season trout 9-12 inches, flood fishing with the trotting rod. Very high water for this beat at 2ft 6 inches, so fishing along the edges of pools - a matter of finding grayling somewhere in medium placed water out of the main flow. Other than that, like Archimedes, one needs a place to stand. The rod can substitute for the lever. A big wind, especially during the afternoon, blowing neither upstream nor down, but most awkwardly right in my face and sending the float off track. I left when the rain became heavier late in the afternoon.

Cilmery Gauge 0.85 dropping to 0.75m by evening and ice in the rod rings so tough going, but managed some small grayling on trotted maggots. River running clear. My first visit so spent much of the day looking around, truly a stunning piece of water.

Had 3 hours on the water, very cold ice in all the puddles, foggy until 2pm. The river was running off from previous rain with a good level of water coloured but not chocolate. Fished upstream gold heads, no fish caught but couple of nice pulls, I guess it's the penalty of fishing barbless hooks which I prefer to use. One disappointment was seeing a cormorant fly over.
