3 Barbel

Arrived 7 am grey misty morning which progressed into light rain all day started at the top of the run and had an 8" brownie with my first cast on a tungsten bug followed by 4 grayling of the same size. Moved down river and had a solid take which I thought was a large trout. It was a double hook up with a large grayling of 17" and another 8" grayling my first double hook up and my largest grayling approx 2lb - happy days. Also had my smallest at a tiny 2". Could have switched to drys as there were plenty of rises but kept busy with the bugs can't wait to return.

1 Trout, 13 Grayling

21 x grayling 6-16 inches, 13 x out of season trout 6-14 inches. Trotting on high water (20 inches Llanstephan). It was in fact a quiet afternoon until getting on for dusk when grayling in a fast glide started to feed hard.
Most of the by-catch trout looked thin, and that seems to be the case with many upper Wye and Irfon trout at the moment. I guess they didn't have a very good year; will some skip spawning?
Otherwise, there were salmon moving all over the beat, and already on the gravel flats where spawning will take place. One bronzed fish in the high teens horsing about seemed determined to jump into my arms. The Irfon is the same, one or two in every hole. Funny how evident salmon are once their season is over.

21 Grayling

We are very impressed with this beat. It covers a long length with many easily accessible fishing spots. We only had time to try those nearest the car with some success. We walked to the far upper end of the beat and here there are some great looking places with deep smooth water which will be worth a try next time.
The pump was on for a short time but we moved further away to avoid it. There is no longer a second field to park in if cows are in the field. The fence has gone so we parked back at the last gateway - only a short walk to the water.
If you fish from the beach to the overhanging willow don't cast too close to the far bank as there are some nasty snags.
Otherwise a great beat, easily room for 4 anglers who will be spoilt for choice of swims.

Dead bait. River looked perfect but the Pike did not want to play.

1 Barbel 6lb. 4oz. to pellet. 1 Chub on meat. Both fish
fighting fit although barbel a little "Tatty" lower part of tail. Conditions seemed good and quite stunning surroundings but a tough day's fishing. Not sure if this was due to fish numbers or lack of local knowledge as this was our first visit to this stretch of the river. Plenty of bird life to observe and enjoy including, unfortunately, one Cormorant travelling upstream in the morning and seven downstream in the late afternoon.

Arrived early morning to a wet drizzly day. Never fished the area before so had no knowledge of the water. Hard going all day. Managed 2 small Chub and 1 Barbel. Very enjoyable scenery. The area was lovely where we were. We will definitely return in the future. Unfortunately on the footpath back to the car I lost the quiver-tip from my feeder rod. What a great session in damp cold conditions. 4 barbel to 12lbs 4oz and another at 10lbs 6oz. Had to move to find the fish. Largest barbel I have guided on the river.

A grey and overcast day with a slow start but things improved from mid morning with three 2lb rainbows caught on small spinners. A dry and relaxing day to end the season.
