Arrived at 1pm and fished until 8pm. We managed to get 8 bites but landed only 3 fish. Quite a snaggy swim right at the top of Leggs Meadow. Cracking bit of river and we caught three nice barbel with biggest at 9lbs 7ozs.

Beat:Usk Reservoir

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Half the reservoir closed each side because of filming for a tv series. No notice put up in ticket hut to inform us. Noticed there was one in there later when leaving.
Couldn't fish the bay as job worth security man wouldn't let us down there. Fish this area often because easy access to water as other angler is disabled.
Onto the fishing. Fished just up from the boat launch area. Overcast with a strong breeze into our faces with choppy water. Bubble float impossible. However great success on spinner and fishing worm on ledger.

A truly disappointing day in general. Two rods fished from 0900-2000 and not a single fish caught and not much activity at all. This beat needs some considerable TLC to improve the standard compared to others on here. It is not just the accessibility to the river but also the condition of the banks and the removal of fallen trees etc to enable fly fishing.
The only place that was worth attempting (opposite the house) became a recreational activity when 10 or so residents of the house decided to go for a swim whilst we were having lunch upstream. If fishing is booked for that day then swimming should not be allowed to take place.
I wouldn't return here if you paid me. You might as well set fire to £20 in your living room, at least you'd get some light!
If this beat is to remain on the foundation I suggest it is reviewed and feeback given accordingly to the owner.

Area:Upper Wye

Beat:Doldowlod

Fishing:Trout (River)

First time fishing on the upper Wye, and was advised by the booking office to try Doldowlod as I was after large grayling.
I fished from 10.30 to 4.30, starting on the lower beat limit three fields down from the sawmill. I didn't make as much progress up the beat as I would have liked as I got fixated on fish rising under the trees and in the middle channel. I'd wanted to try out Czech nymphs through the gutter section but the fish were in heads up mode and completely ignored them - a salutary lesson in matching prevailing conditions rather than coming to a river with preconceived methods. All fish were caught on Klinkhammers, with the three trout ranging from 1-1.25lb and the grayling at around a pound. I took the largest trout, all others safely returned. Was surprised by how acrobatic the trout were, with all of them jumping clear of the surface at least three times before coming to the net.
I echo the comments about the difficulty in wading over the bedrock, and I'm glad I took a wading staff as it would have been an early bath otherwise. This is a very scenic beat, with lots of wildlife (kingfishers, red kite, buzzards and wagtails).
Leaves now starting to show on the river surface - won't be long until we're properly into autumn grayling fishing.

Area:Upland Llyns

Beat:Llyn Bugeilyn

Fishing:Trout (River)

Found the location easy with the directions given, no probs with the acess track, just took it very steady and the old 2w/drive Volvo made it right down to the boat house (I might add you do run a risk of cutting your tyres on the slate stone track covering though). Low cloud, wind & rain for about 3hrs so could only see about 1/3 rd of the Llyn but then the sun came out and it was good for rest of the day. Managed to take 10 trout up to 3/4lb & lost about 8, on dry & wet fly, wets. Used gh spider, gh buzzer, bibio, dry sedge, hawthorns, bibio, all in black.
Had a really good few hours with the little but hard fighters on light set up. Venue & scenery stunning!!! Will I return? You bet! Thanks once again wuf for the chance to fish such great locations.

Fantastic sunny day with perfect conditions, as the river was falling after rain. Lots of canoes, but none a problem. Fished the very top pool and caught a small, bent barbel (about 4lbs) and lost plenty of feeders. Then moved downstream, fishing a number of different swims and eventually found one where the barbel were feeding hard. I caught a fish almost every cast until dusk, mostly in the 5-8lb region.
